Happy to be corrected. Had it in my head they were! Surely it wouldn’t just be the heritage flight? Because i’m not sure how correct this is, aren’t the demo pilots the only ones allowed to fly in the heritage flight? The same way only certain pilots can fly the warbirds with them?

If that’s wrong I’ll lay low for a while haha!

I really can't imagine the F35 Demo Pilot will travel all the way over here just to do a couple of fly pasts for the heritage flight. They seem to couple the majority of their displays with the HF.

I may be misremembering, but I seem to recall last time the F-35A was at RIAT for the Heritage Flight it did a short solo display but not the full demo routine

The F-35 demo only began in 2019. Before this it was only limited to heritage flight appearances.

You're right.

Going from the last Heritage flight I saw, the 2017 F22 Heritiage Flight the Aircraft does indeed do a solo demo also. It's not as long as the full demo though.

I think it was around 8 minutes and the F22/P51 then did about 4 minutes.

Can't remember now if the HF section with the 2 aircraft opens or closes the display though.

On the HF webpage it lists F35 and A10. I suspect the F35 and A10 will take off, A10 will display then hold, F35 will hold then display. They'll then form up in a 3 or 4 ship with a Mustang or two. Maybe?

I guess it depends on:
1) Whether Dan comes over himself (with no back-to-back or same-weekend Legends/RIAT double-header this year)
2) Which of his toys he fancies flying
I remember last time (2018?), with the F-35, he and Steve Hinton flew a Spitfire and a P-51 in the HF.

One year the Heritage element went tech on the Saturday (?) so the -35 took off and did a short display in lieu of the HF elements. Very impressive by all accounts, would very much like to see the full demo.

Is there any possibility of the P-47 taking part in the heritage flight? With the A-10 that would be absolutely ace.

I'd quite like to see a jet warbird along with a prop warbird if possible. This would show each generation of the USAF which resonates with their anniversary.

Or the P47 with the F35

Very, very frightning.

OK, I'll see myself out.

The Sabre and Mustang like they do stateside. But I don't know if the Sabre that is currently confirmed for static is allowed to participate in the flying display or if anyone is registered to fly it as part of the heritage flight?

With the Czech helicopters already confirmed, Romanian MiG-21s being withdrawn and all MiG-29s unavailable is there any realistic chance of seeing any more Soviet Union era aircraft in the flying display? The only potential european candidate I can think of is the Polish SU-22 demo but it has been limited to static displays only in recent years. Hopefully today the Turkish Air force and armed forces will confirm their attendance as they have been listed as 'ongoing' from pretty much the first weekly update 😅

Also disappointed with the Saudi Air force and Colombian air force not participating. I am really interested why the discussions with Colombia were so short lived.

8 minutes is about full length for a fast jet demo isn't it?

bobby - I don't for one moment think that the flashing on the website only starts when discussions with an airarm begin. The team at DBH may well have been in talks with Colombia for months.

The curse of clarity of information is always wanting to know more. I’m sure it’s probably not for us to know, tbh.

What’s important is that RIAT and Colombia, fair play, at least tried and were in discussions. There could be a whole number of reasons; cost, serviceability, another event, changing operational commitments, even a change of policy re defence assets. All one can do is draw the good news from it that at least they were open to discussions re attending, and perhaps whatever their reason for declining the invitation this year, may have sorted itself for next year.

I always think that the list of “stuff that cancelled before it could even make the list” must be mouth-wateringly frustrating!

If we’re talking about what Soviet aircraft are left in Europe, and they’re flashing green, Hungary still have the Hip and Hind (though presumably they’ll send the Gripen as per).

Yeah I think Tom has convinced me that Hungary won't send any Soviet-design stuff for sure. Thanks for the head up tom.

Croatian MiG21s and they're flashing orange - probably should be in wish list, but they are likely last chance saloon for the type to appear before they are all gone.

RIAT just spiting me at this stage.

Flying Hungarian Hind - insane catch. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

*edit - the “in the spotlight” bio also says one for static, but idk if it’s a typo or not.
