Just completed a bit of a bucket list grand tour of as many Warbird/aviation
related museums and other stuff. There's a bit to see so divided up into the
two islands.
First up the Auckland war memorials Spitfire and Zero.
Aviation tour of NZ, first stop Auckland War memorials Spitfire and Zero.
Thames, never knew it, a place Keith Park had spent
some time. A great full scale replica of a Hawker Hurricane.
In town a bronze of the great man.

The Kiwis are definitely on a roll with their classic aircraft aren't they? The Miles Messenger was a surprise. Was it airworthy?
Re: Grand tour of New Zealand (North Island)
Yep, all the WW I types are flyers, the Skyhawk, Macchi and obviously
the Canberra fuselage are the only none flyers in the other hanger.
Agreed they have a very active warbird movement in the country,
not only flying but also restoring them.
Next stop across to the east coast to the Classic Flyers Museum at
Tauranga, a diverse and interesting collection.
DC3 does scenic flights up and down the coast.
This Harvard was doing warbird flights on the day.
Most grateful to Peter of Classic Flyers who got me in a few hangers to
check out some of the airworthy types.
This Harvard in her original 1970's RNZAF training scheme.
Not so often seen four seater "Thruxton Jackaroo" Tiger Moth.
Yes this Hunter is airworthy.

Really? I thought that was only in theory, the bang seat not certified from memory?Yes this Hunter is airworthy.
Re: Grand tour of New Zealand (North Island)
Ah thanks Errol only going on what I was told, maybe airworthy if the ejection seat is certified?
