Some general aviation photos from Italy

Post by Dysko »

Some general aviation photos I have not published yet.

The first series was taken in Alzate Brianza gliderport, near Como, on 23 December 2018.

Schleicher ASK-21. Since it was 2 days before Christmas, the club's aerobatic instructor and one of the aerobatic pilots decided to make a video dressed as Santa Claus!

The second series was taken on 1st May in Verona Boscomantico, Verona's general aviation airport, when 2 friends of mine had the crazy idea of jumping out of a perfectly safe aircraft.

Finally, a photo taken in Vittoriale degli Italiani, private mansion and museum of Italian poet Gabriele d'Annunzio. If you go in the museum's theatre, you can see the Ansaldo SVA.10 on which d'Annunzio lead a formation of 11 planes for his famous flight above Vienna on 9th August 1918, launching leaflets prompting the surrender of the Austro-Hungarian Army. For a long time this plane was thought to be a single-seater SVA.5 modified into a two-seater to carry d'Annunzio (countrary to popular belief, d'Annunzio never obtained a pilot license, and only flew as observer and gunner). However, a restoration in 1987 by Gruppo Amici Velivoli Storici found the construction number, which confirmed this version as being a native two-seater SVA.10.
