Blackjack & Reds at Southend (updated with BBMF Lancaster)

Post by LN Strike Eagle »

Joined the masses at Southend today and really happy I did. Wasn't loads of action but the shots of the Reds and Typhoon I'm quite pleased with. BBMF weren't so good, I messed those up (could have done with the Lanc turning around at the same point the Typhoon did) and left before the JP arrived as I've seen and photographed it plenty before at North Weald.

It's all happening again tomorrow if anyone fancies it. The Reds have two sorties to different displays and will then depart in the evening, and the Typhoon doesn't leave until Monday so that'll be landing back tomorrow too.

Nice selection there. I went to the elevated section near the park to start with then when the sun moved I went around by the Church. Was busier than I was expecting.

I was talking to a lad by the church in the morning who was there yesterday, he said that the Typhoon and Lanc turn around on the runway near the fence and assured me it was the best place to be.

Done my best to salvage some of my dreadful Lancaster images. Thank goodness for RAW is all I can say - I'm a total convert, can't believe I shot JPEG for so long. It can't fix my choice of shutter speeds though. :flushed:

Fantastic to see this thing again - I honestly can't remember the last time I saw the Lancaster up close on the ground anywhere, even the last few RIATs I've been to it hasn't flown. Would be nice if they flew it into Duxford shows, it's so unusual to be able to get this close to it these days unless you are local to Coningsby.

Fantastic Dan! Must make the trip over sometime, had thought about it a few years back but after seeing these, it's a must for next year!
