A taste of Air Power

Post by Roger_Over »

First visit to Zeltweg for me, I went on a last minute impulse so too late to join the lottery for the spotter’s passes but public viewing areas were ok if you got in early to stake a good place, as long as you can manage without a comfort break all day!

Pros:
Eight hours per day of diverse flying
Last opportunity to see a MiG-21 at a display probably (although not a patch on the Romanian display)
More flares than a Slade gig
The best helicopter aerobatics I’ve seen
Mountain backdrop

Cons:
Static as mentioned by most people, great aircraft as long as you don’t want a photo
Way too many people on Saturday, I’d be interested to see their emergency evacuation plan
Overtly drunken and obnoxious behaviour, quite a few people seemed more interested in getting steaming than watching the show
FOD nightmare, rubbish was discarded all over the place despite waste bins and recycling points being provided, luckily there wasn’t much wind to blow debris onto the airfield

Overall very good, I’d go back on my own again but wouldn’t take my family unless I could guarantee passes into enclosures for all three of us.

Very nice. All these years I never realised the Me262 had leading edge wing slats.

Superb shots thank you for sharing !! I really like the helicopter pics especially. Agree on most things you mentioned. Being a free show is on the cons side for me, not because I like to spend money but because the party people not really interested in aviation would not appear if there was an entry fee. Still a very enjoyable show despite the crowds.

I’ve been trying to improve my photography skills recently so this was a good show to have a play.

Thanks for the encouraging comments folks!

A great selection, there was certainly a lot of variety at the show just from the shots you've put up.

Love the Me262 shots.

Ditto Me262.... get it over here and fly it with a Spit XIV and any Tempest that will go - or MB's Meteor.
