Re: Yeovilton Air Day 2016
The newsletter today said they were also hoping to have the Apache take part in the commando assault and there is a possibility of two more heavies joining the static so going to guess that one will be an E-3 either RAF or NATO.
Re: Yeovilton Air Day 2016
Can anyone please tell me if access can be obtained on the approach (East) end of the runway opposite the public airshow viewing position, so that I will not be photographing into the sun?
I'm coming from Australia, and already have my Arrival (Fri) and Saturday tickets, but really don't fancy getting backlit images.
Saw a Youtube video of a previous arrivals day, whereby people were obtaining great views before being "moved on" by Police. Apparently it was privately owned farmland.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Alan

Nice to see them officially confirmed by the organisers, been almost a month now since that the team posted they would be coming.
Re: Yeovilton Air Day 2016
I had booked to go to BAF days but I can no longer afford to, so I'm going to do Yeovilton for the third year in a row.
Friday rehearsals on site, then camp on the motorhome site at the base, then the show on Saturday.
Does anyone know if:
A) Yeovilton has an issue with step ladders (it's just a two step, but it means I can set up at the back and not worry about rushing for a front line seat)?
B) If the museum is open on Friday (after 3pm as I believe that's when we're turfed off)?
Thanks in advance!

No idea about step ladders but the museum is open until 1730 on Friday and Saturday

Hi Alan,
The 2016 restrictions are now published (a little later than usual). You've just got to work around them. You can find a .pdf file here:
http://www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-parkin ... 115=113643
I'm planning to be there as per usual. I hope you enjoy your visit over here. You've picked a good year to come!

That's a relief - this year's Commando Assault had been looking a bit 'light' until this

PARTICIPATION UPDATE:
E-3A Sentry – NATO (Static)
A NATO Boeing E-3A Sentry is once more part of Air Day’s static line-up. One of 17 NATO-operated Sentries, it’s part of the organisation’s E-3A Component and based at Geilenkirchen, Germany. Equipped with a 30-foot-wide radar, this large and imposing aircraft can track targets across up to 400 kilometre ranges. It is set to be, as last year, a highly popular static display attraction.

Pair of Dutch F-16s have been added to the static display. Shaping up nicely.

Maybe not a classic show but it certainly looks pretty good

Have to admit I was looking at going as on holiday that way, but there's no real stand out acts and I'm going to RIAT so I'm going to give it a miss. Shame.

Sea Vixen and Rafale Role Demo are stand out acts for me plus the Commando Assault is always a pleasure to witness.
