Its alright, but a Y-9 would have been better.Tommy wrote: ↑Thu 25 Aug 2022, 11:18 amY-20 officially added to the list:

Probably the European airshow pull of the year, but still prefer the E-4B personally.
Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
I really don’t get all this hype over the E-4, they’ve been in and out of Mildenhall on a regular basis for decades.capercaillie wrote: ↑Thu 25 Aug 2022, 12:13 pmProbably the European airshow pull of the year, but still prefer the E-4B personally.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Nobody said they hadn't, although regular is stretching it a bit. However when you don't live on the doorstep, its not easy to arrange the next few hours off work to travel a 400 mile round trip just to see one aircraft.Mike wrote: ↑Thu 25 Aug 2022, 2:05 pmI really don’t get all this hype over the E-4, they’ve been in and out of Mildenhall on a regular basis for decades.capercaillie wrote: ↑Thu 25 Aug 2022, 12:13 pmProbably the European airshow pull of the year, but still prefer the E-4B personally.
It was a first European (indeed outside the USA) airshow appearance for what is a very smart looking aircraft, a brilliant scoop for Peter and the team.
Anyway its going off thread and nowt to do with Zeltweg, wish I was going, but you definitely need to be doing arrivals as the static is woefully laid out.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
The forecasts have been very changeable and currently not looking great for Thu/Fri but hopefully it will settle down a bit
Maybe it's a good job they changed the Galeb from camo to white!

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
A bit pessimistic. I'd describe it as changeable with the potential for some great photo's. It'll make a nice change from all that boring blue stuff at RIAT this year. Enjoy the show.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
My favourite kind of lighting, especially immediately after a storm when the Sun breaks out of the cloud.
Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
No, as someone who has been booked to travel to Zeltweg since January for the show, I'd say the weather forecast is look catastrophically bad at the moment, with poor visiblity and thunderstorms on the arrivals days likely to cause mass cancellations for the lighter, VFR only, aircraft. Having visited AP16 & AP19, the latter of which was plagued with poor weather over the show days, I can tell you I'd such rather have a week of sunshine thank-you very much.
PS: No sure where bobby 1211's mention of Patrulla Aguila has come from as they've never been listed to attend. Notable changes to the flying programme include the Serbian Hip now performing in the flying display, but Slovak L-39 not listed in the preliminary display schedule, but fingers crossed they still show for static display.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Thanks for the update on the Hip and L-39. I got the info about Patrulla Aguila attending from the airpower22 website in the news section and from the press conference they did. When I was looking at whats due to fly I realised they are missing from the participation list. I have to say, trying to keep updated on what's due at airpower this year is hard as the website is quite difficult to navigate on.
Several aerobatic squadrons also perform, most notably the
Frecce Tricolori with 10 MB-339A and the
Patrouille Suisse with 6 F-5E,
Patrulla Águila with 7 CASA C-101 and
Krila Oluje with 6 PC-9M.
Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Looking forward to the Serbian Hip in the flying!
The flying display schedule has now been published which clarifies a few things (German Tiger is flying, French Tiger is static etc).

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Display programme seems to be incomplete, definitely missing is the Austrian helicopter part (Blackhawk, Bell 212, Kiowa) - these are listed as flying in the participants list and I expect the usual “airfield attack/evacuation” demo. Also the Italian and German EFs seem to be static both, so only Austrian EF flying (opening, solo and QRA demo). Agreed, the way they list participants this year is suboptimal. Anyway I’m happy with the flying schedule even if it stays this way, considering the disappointment after the first press conference a few months ago.
Weather will be how it will be so no point in complaining about that. Also weather predictions in the region anything more than 2-3 days into the future are difficult and unreliable so there is still chance of improvement. Scrolling through my shots of previous editions of AirPower the 2019 pics do stand out being more dramatic, lower keeper rate granted. Because the show entry is free of charge you can expect far less crowds when the weather prediction is not perfect…one thing I really enjoyed in ‘19. It does not have to be wall-to-wall sunshine to be a great day out, as long as the flying goes ahead. Each to their own of course but I’d rather see it this way than thinking it will be “catastrophically bad”.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
I don't know where the weather forecasts come from, but from experiences in the past, I can tell you that all other than the base meteo's should be avoided. On the other side of that line of mountains it can be crap while its great at the base itself.
A weather forecast is a forecast and just that

Looks much better now for the show days. Most reliable weather service for the area is this one:

Arrival/Rehearsal schedule:
https://ticker.airpower.gv.at/?fbclid=I ... HsgtxwE0p0
Regarding the Appearance of MiG-21… it did fly a rehearsal today so it is looking good. Also Chinese Y-20 due inbound today.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Has the Y-20 arrived? I saw something on FR24 without callsign disappear in the area around 4 our time, was that it? Came in from Turkey.
Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Yep it came in! 20241 - low viz marks but a full colour Chinese flag on the tail.

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria
Limited info on the Spotters-pack so far. Who can enlighten me?
- What locations are good?
- Is it possible to move around during the day? If so how easy is it?
- How is the sun?
- How is the backdrop from the different locations?
- Are some good for helicopters but bad for jets and voce versa?
Is there a map with the locations?

Well at least the sun was out if a little down the nose. Interesting to see, thanks Tom.
