Miami International Cockroach Corner 1978

Post by xkekeith »

A self guided tour of cockroach corner at Miami International in September 1978 when a Heathrow pass would get you airside with a friendly wave from security, I wasn't old enough to hire a car in the USA so I walked the whole way round ..... I was a lot fitter then. All scanned from the original photo's taken on a very cheap camera.

Love them. I went in 1990 and ramps acess was still quite easy then. If you are on FB check out this group https://www.facebook.com/groups/2072831626164571

ditto - First went to the US (Forida) in 1987 and managed ramp access at most airport locations for photos , included an escorted tour of the then "cockroach corner" using the MIA Ops Managers Pick Up truck , who kindly drove us all around the ramp with numerous photo stops. In those days at certain smaller airports you could drive the ramp in the hire car...... how times changed after 9/11.

Superb nostalgic photos posted on this thread

In a word, wow!

Any idea of the ID of the A26? Appears to be an early one with that style of windshield framing.

Unfortunately I didn't look for a plate on the day and so far nothing found via internet searches....

Some further web research suggested the identity B-26C N9424Z ex 43-22729

Thanks for chasing that up, it does sound a likely candidate. Reg cancelled with the FAA in 2017, hope she resurfaces at some point.

Great collection of photos Keith. Many thanks for scanning and posting. I've always had a soft spot for the C-46 and Connie.
