Flying Leatherneck Museum, MCAS El Toro

Post by planenuts »

Hi chaps, this post is in dedication to the possible demise of the collection. Recently it was announced that budget constraints led to the decision to close the museum, which moved to MCAS Miramar in 2000. The decision was made to re-allocate the $400,000 needed annually to keep it running. Currently the foundation running the place are developing fundraising plans to look into relocating the collection back to El Toro (which closed as a MCAS in 1999). Anyway, here's what was there back in 1996 prior to the airshow there 2 days later....

This brings back memories of a visit in October 1996. I don't remember seeing the radar equipped Corsair though and the Bell 412 was out on display

This brings back memories of a 2007 visit to this museum in San Diego (and my early attempts at digital photography !).
