Various RAF Chivenor (Updated 25.05.15)
Hi,
Some pics from RAF Butlins taken in the mid 80's-mid 90's. I used to get dropped into Barnstaple by my dad with my bike, and i used to spend the day on the bench over-looking the apron along the Tarka Trail, or at the runway end at Braunton Burrows, Happy days . Wouldn't let my kids out all day without any way of contact now though!!!
A few visitors first:(if anyone can help with dates, especially the Alpha Jets, think it was 94??, it would be appreciated.Notekeeping was not my strong point....!!)

Love the Hawk, such a beauty. Shame I never got to see aircraft schemed like these though!

Flew out from there once in a Seaking, fond memories, however I never saw much else when there! Love the camo Hawks!

Heaven in Devon. Only went once but it still amazes me that back in the 80's- early 90's we had 2 Tactical Weapon Units at Chiv and Brawdy each flying at least 40 or so Hawks churning out F/J pilots and backseaters at a massive rate, let alone all the other FTS's/CFS/RAFC etc. What days they were.....
Nice post showing also how much variety we had to enjoy back then before the stupid black plague.

Great to see the FRADU jet (it is XF310 not XE665)
That image would have been taken at some point between August 1981 and November 1983!

The shots of the Hawks at Chivenor bring back very fond memories of my time as a QWI at the TWU.
Thanks for posting them.

Pretty cool how the tail codes on the Air '85' Day covershot spell out 'Chivenor'.

Re: Various RAF Chivenor (Updated 25.05.15)
Spent many happy days there.
Have some somewhere myself. Can always remember there was pretty much always a 2 seat Danish Draken at the airdays, can remember it very low over the house one day so sticks in my mind. Can remember being allowed in early one day at one airshow and my son being allowed in a Canadian Hornet. Happy days.
Went back there last weekend funnily enough.. thanks for sharing
Memories now! I can remember one year (maybe over 2) getting a flypast from a C5 a C141 a KC135 that wernt in the program as they were passing and asked to fly by. No one else can remember it that i speak to, but have the photos so didn't dream it..

Very clever and well executed (in the days when we had sufficient numbers of airframes to do it).
Reminds me of a time in the late 80s (or early 90s), when we depleted the fleet of JP Mk3/3a at CFS Scampton and we used to park some of the last airframes on the line to spell out N F I
Naughty groundcrew...

Definitely not a dream ! There was also an appearance from the Weather Herc, also in 84. I've got the C141 somewhere as well.
Apologies for the hijack Jon, but heres a couple from 1984, and further apologies for the quality of these scanned prints. Especially the Draken, I dont know where that blue line has come from, but then the neg is over 30 years old
