It's Back! - Graf Zeppelin's Wrecks & Relics - Parts 1 to 4
Along with the various lumps of exotica Phil has photographed on his travels, he also caught a large number of aircraft in various states of disrepair at various locations.
Starting at Manston on 24 October 1971
Vulcan B.1A XH483
Javelin FAW.6 XA829
Hastings C.1 TG501
RAF Museum Store at Henlow, 25 October 71
Shackleton MR.3/3 XF703
Shawbury, 28 October 71
Lots of JP fuselage centre sections
Luton, 13 November 71

Kemble, 25 November 71
"Celebrity" Canberra B.16 WJ777
Various Meteors
Argosys

Spitfire F.22 PK664. This aircraft was the one which the RAF Museum "paid" Kennet Aviation for the recovery and return of the P-40 which was found in the desert in Egypt a couple of years ago, and is still to make it's way back to the UK
Halton, 1 August 78
Twin Pioneer CC.1 XM961
More to follow as I find them...

Did not know the Deaf School had a vampire, its only around the corner from me. I remember the one at Hazel Grove High however as i used to pass it in my parents cars. When i was there from 1983 to 1988 it was just a memory,
However. The pod of it still survives, its in 56 sqn colours now.
Somre great memories there thanks Phil.

Great to see these. It's almost like looking at an online photographic version of a back issue of the Wrecks & Relics book itself!

Vampire XD434 the one at Barton Also survives and is at the Fenland Air Museum currently being refurbished. So does XD534 which is lovingly cared for by the Aeropark at East Midlands Airport.

Truly excellent photos, as always. Love all the silver/dayglo trainer schemes. If only I was old enough to go and see these!

Re: Graf Zeppelin's Guide to Wrecks & Relics - Parts 1 to 3
Hello, boys, I'm b-a-a-a-c-k!!
After a bit of pestering and cajoling from His Nibs, here are some more aircraft in various states of repair.
2 August 1974
Vampire T.1 7203M / TG349 at Baldock
23 July 1975
Some properly broken aircraft, including a Hunter of sorts (possibly at Predannack?)
22 July 1975
RAF Locking
7118M / LA198/JX-C - Spitfire F.21
7920M / WL360 - Meteor T.7
19 May 1976
Canberras and a couple of 'Whistling T*ts' at RAF Halton
7387M / WD999 - Canberra B.2
8492M / WJ872 - Canberra T.4
It's also a little-known fact that the RAF conducted a series of trials with the aim of creating man-eating aircraft in the 1960s...
8204M / XM271 - Canberra B(I).8
8221M / XP409 - Argosy C.1
8454M / XP442 - Argosy T.2
As ever, more info about the airframes can be found on Phil's Flickr pages.

Welcome back
Could the possible Predannack Hunter and Varsity be at Weston Super Mare airfield ?? Which was still semi active in the 70s.

Great stuff!
Are the target tug wings in the Baldock shot the Fairey Battles K7571 and R7361 as I am sure that I saw them there at around that time?
Cheers,
Ralph

Excellent series of photo's. I'm especially intrigued by the last shot which features 8454M/XP442-Argosy T.2 (Whistling T*t) evidently 'post augmentation' with a super nipple!!
