. With the Mig’s crashing on the Saturday I don’t think the buses were running

Question regarding the Russian MiG Pilots, did the infamous punch up actually happen? Also I seem to remember a piece of footage in TV showing one of the pilots lighting up a cigarette, is that not dangerous considering whats just happened.

The two pilots involved in the MiG collision were Sergei Tresvyatsky and Alexander G. Beschastnov. It's worth pointing out that Beschastnov went on to lose his life while testing a Myasischev M-101T in 2001.

I've often wondered if the punch was an "urban myth", possibly originally started by the British press. I also remember the film/photo of the guy lighting up a cigarette, presumably any danger involved was far from his mind after what had just happened!

The famous cigarette appears about a minute in. (Spot the deliberate mistake in the commentary though).
