few shots the highly secretive water rail often herd making pig sounds but rarely seen out in the open nice to catch this one in the water rather than darting in and out of the reeds ( first shots with a new camera )

Its a common but very secretive relative of the Moorhen and Coot. It stays most of the time within reedbeds but can sometimes be seen at their fringes, especially early morning and late evening. Even then their appearances are often high-speed dashes from one bit of cover to the next. Getting one loitering in the open in sunshine as Ian has, is a very satisfying achievement!
