Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Not too sure on flares. Some are based at Cosford and take-off and land. The faster jets though come in and display and leave. I think they based at Shawbury in 2018.
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Thanks Jason. I'm in two minds if I'll travel down from the Lakes for this one and wanted to know if I'll see something a bit different (flares are still rare in the UK) and if you'll be looking into the sun. Shawbury seems likely for the fast jets and should have the infrastructure to support pyro.
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Hi. Never seen flares at cosford. Probably not allowed due to confines of it being a small airfield. They do ground vases pyrotechnics tho.
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Sorry based not vases, no flowers allowed!

Thanks for the clarification. I'll probably give it a miss then.Spotty_Jag wrote: ↑Sun 01 May 2022, 12:23 pmRAF Shawbury has not had the ability to handle armed aircraft since 2016, hence the lack of flares used by display assets at Cosford since then.
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
39 days to go and still no updates since April 19th. Looks like it's waiting for a bus. You wait days for display items, then 20 turn up at once. ..........we live in hope.

I'm wondering if they are waiting for "One month to go" before making a considerable sized announcement/update.

does anybody still wear flares these days, my last pair went to a charity shop in the early 1980s?

Wouldn't it be funny if there were no more additions!

Hilarious.
In fact I've decided to wear a corset until mid June just in case.

No, you're right, it isn't funny. My poor attempt at being cynical.
I know the team are working hard behind the scenes, and all credit to them, but the occasional message would be appreciated. Even if it was just to say don't worry, red tape etc there is more to come.
Or we could pretend it's a 1980's airshow where you turned up not knowing what was going to be on. Then you looked at the programme and found that all your Christmases had come at once " A 104 AND a Mirage!" Ahh, those were the days.

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
I'm starting to think Cosford is suffering the same issues as RIAT. Working with a smaller crew in terms of behind the scenes so we see less direct communication right now.
I have no doubt there is a lot more to come, but remember things can't be confirmed until all the paperwork is signed off on. They could be waiting on things like that, or saving announcements for one big reveal with 1 month to go or something.
in 5 weeks time I am sure a lot more will have been confirmed. No need to worry.
If in 4 weeks we still have no more knowledge of whats displaying, then maybe start to worry lol.

Not too sure of what to make of that.
Waiting for paperwork etc is a 'watch this space' situation. An idea is something yet to be acted upon. With only 6 weeks to go, that doesn't give much time for the aforesaid paperwork for any possible further foreign participation. I'll put it down as a poor choice of words.

XT420 has (I think, there are now so many Wasps and Scouts it’s difficult to keep track!) not long come out of servicing at North Weald wearing higher-viz markings than she did previously. A nice addition, if confirmed.

Really not sure what to make of that.. is that like "We are just waiting for things to align" or "Oh crap lets think about things we can fill time with because its getting late"
crossing my fingers that there are more things to come and where are all the Jet Provosts and warbirds??

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
I'm always a bit 'glass half full' when it comes to airshows, so maybe i'm being overly kind - but if nothing else is added, i'll still be extremely pleased to be going to Cosford.
Last year I travelled about 4 hours and booked a hotel just so I could see a couple of Typhoon displays at Bournemouth airshow. It was a great event, for a seaside airshow, but it didn't have a Gripen or a Rafale - and if it had, I would have been elated.
These last couple of years have been so awful and I for one am just extremely glad to see military airshows returning, even if they're not quite back up to full strength.
There's still a month to go, so who knows what they might pull out of the hat - but if it isn't much, i'll still be very happy to be back at Cosford.

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
I just hope whatever Ideas they've got are interesting. The Navy Wasp is a fine addition. The beautiful Beech Staggerwing at Duxford recently would be good - maybe the Vampire too.
If it's a number of acts always seen at Cosford, I have very little interest.

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
While it's a great looking line up, it comes nowhere near the promised 6 hours. I'd say 3 at most BUT I do still expect a lot to be added.
Blades, Wingwalkers, Historic Helicopters, Strikemaster pair as well as a good few Warbirds etc are all displays that I think could be possible at Cosford.
But, regardless. I am looking forward to a great weekend. It's great to be getting back to normal and for shows to be returning after this long. I assume costs have also skyrocketed recently which maybe an issue causing less announcements (so far)
I do think more will be added though.

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
I'm sorry but the communication from Cosford has been dreadful this year. Five weeks to go and there's only 11 displays listed on website! They haven't even listed their resident Jaguars or Tornados, why? Are the Museum not providing any aircraft? What else am I getting for my £34? From the items listed on the website, the flying display is 3 hours absolute maximum, before you consider the jungle drums from from Shawbury that the Gripen has cancelled?!
