Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Gotta love the descriptions ('small planes'...'old plane')
Hope everyone going tomorrow has a great day.

What's the traffic been like and any more static surprises lined up?

According to Google Maps there is about 5 miles of traffic on the M54, which is pretty standard for a Cosford show.

Anyone know why team raven aren't able to display
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
The F35 has just closed the show… my word it was loud as it approached. Woke the cat up which takes some doing.

Static felt a bit thin, the flying display brilliant even if a little shorter than normal. Overall a pretty good show but I haven’t even attempted to join the traffic yet

We are a few miles off the north east side of the runway.. Displays can be heard quite clearly although not always seen. The Lightning’s arrival and request to run in and hover was the loudest of the day. Didn’t see it sadly, had to make do with the BBMF Spit racing around, which is always joyous.

I am as deaf as a door post and from where I was standing the F-35 in the hover today was the loudest thing I've ever heard. It more than made made up for the initial rather pitiful, reheatless pass it made on arrival.

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
The F35 was loud. on its first pass I said to myself I thought it was louder at RIAT 2019 and must be mis-remembering.
Then it went into the hover right in front of the Cosford club. That was one of the loudest things I have ever heard. My whole body was vibrating.

I think you must be confusing them with this year’s Red Arrows

Yeah, they worked on it right until Friday evening
unfortunately, the new MOD insurance requirements meant we were unable to attend. We and the organisers tried everything possible up until late Friday evening.

All of the other civilian acts were OK. I wonder what the 'new' clause is about?

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
My own guess, the other displays were all solo displays (Rich Goodwin, P51, Helicopters, Catalina) where-as Team Raven are a 6 ship with close formation aerobatics?Wrexham Mackem wrote: ↑Wed 15 Jun 2022, 2:48 pmAll of the other civilian acts were OK. I wonder what the 'new' clause is about?
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
The Two Spanish Harriers at Riat in a dual hover were as loud as I've heard at an Airshow but both pale into insignificance when you've stood next to the funnell of a 155,000 tonner on the estuary of the River Tagus and its sounded its fogHorn - there were fillings flying everywhere!!
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Sorry if this has been covered before but does anyone know why the BAC didn't use flares?
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
By far and away the loudest noise at any air event in my opinion was by the EE Lightnings on reheat at Bruntingthorpe, particularly as the punters were much closer to the jet than at a conventional airshow. All sadly lost nowMartin77 wrote: ↑Sat 18 Jun 2022, 12:50 pmThe Two Spanish Harriers at Riat in a dual hover were as loud as I've heard at an Airshow but both pale into insignificance when you've stood next to the funnell of a 155,000 tonner on the estuary of the River Tagus and its sounded its fogHorn - there were fillings flying everywhere!!

Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Aircraft carrying flares need to be treated as 'armed' when on the ground, and the base they're using has to be equipped to process live weapons. Cosford isn't, therefore no flares. Neither is Shawbury, nor Fairford strangely, which is why we no longer see flares at RIAT. A bomber base not having this seems odd, but I think its to do with arrangements that need to be in place for the show affecting how these things are processed. That's my understanding anyway.
Re: Cosford Airshow 2022
Thanks, I did think it would be something to do with this however I thought that the F-16 operated from Brize so therefore would be able to use flares, but I might be wrong as to where it operated out of. Perhaps the routine doesn't use flares this year regardless.Wrexham Mackem wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 8:54 amAircraft carrying flares need to be treated as 'armed' when on the ground, and the base they're using has to be equipped to process live weapons. It's a crying shame really, who doesn't love a good flare!
