Where does this info come from? Not heard that U2s will be permanently stationed there.

Various FC posts.

Many suggested that this was the beginning of the detachment but, that's obviously not correct, my apologies.

Probably a shoot in the dark but I would guess that after the U-2 was circuit bashing the other week people have thought it was conducting local familiarisation training flights, put two and two together and assumed from this a future detachment being based here?

No, there's more to it than that. I'm led to believe (but don't quote me on it) that the information has come directly from people on base.

Oh OK, that sounds rather interesting then. As I said, a shot (shoot!) in the dark

Picking up what sounds like "Canberra-535" on 133.750 requesting approach to Fairford.

Assuming that's the OMNI flight so apologies if I've got the call-sign wrong on that one.

Camber is the callsign that civilian airlines use when on tasking to the US military.

Thanks for the additional info Eric - I'm obviously still new to this so appreciate the guidance. After you and FlankerPhoto pointed me in the right direction I did a little more digging as the only Omni call sign I'd seen along these lines was Driller which wasn't anything like what I was hearing.

So one more dumb question if I haven't used up my allocation for the day. I noticed the FFD Movements site has the expected Sun Country flight listed as SCX8980 so is it only Omni that uses Camber or does that imply the Sun Country flight is on a different assignment?

It's flight number is SCX8980 so I should think that it's callsign will be "Sun country 8980", not all civilian charters use the Camber callsign, I think it's something to do with which US mil dept they're working for. Camber is usually used by chartered aircraft for AMC (Air Mobility Command) - I think!

Matches what's on the FM website.

Given that the NOTAM's still up, is the 767 due out ( wouldn't think it's for the remaining U-2 ) ?
