So you're not watching them either then?Gt5500 wrote: ↑Wed 16 Feb 2022, 3:45 pmThere's been plenty of excellent displays by historic jets post Shoreham so I'm not really sure it's an issue anyway. I've noticed over the years that many people at airshows don't like raising their heads to watch aerobatic manoeuvres, you see it all the time, a plane pulls up to do something or other and half the people lose interest and look down or talk to their friends.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
On the aerobatic thing, as someone who takes far too many photos during RIAT week, I would love to see more low, missed approaches during a jet display than (for example) a Typhoon or F-16 Zoom climb thousands of feet into the blue sky.
And of course, more top sides

Pair of Scousers! Er no I mean pair of Scooters
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Not sure I get your point, doesn't take much to imagine a situation where I'm looking up watching something (hopefully exciting) only to glance down at friends, family or other spectators around me and see them all looking at their phones instead...

US Navy Super Hornet Demo Schedule has been released on their Facebook page with nothing for the RIAT weekend. Definitely on my wishlist.
Fast jet fanatic.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I must admit a wide yawn when I was reminded that Trainers were a theme at RIAT. While trainers may have been quite interesting if historical aircraft were included it seems it was trainers for the next generation (no airfield full of sims jokes please) - so what trainer will wake me up? I suppose the M346 but my wish list extends to the the T50 (black one please and it can bring some friends) or in this Farnborough year an outing for the T7 Red Hawk - anyone else make any offers?

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I have to say that i was not blown away by the announcement yesterday.
After such a gap, one would have hoped for a loud ,noisy, flame spitting aircraft as the first one to be mentioned. Christ its been so blinking long since we had one (due to the covid, obviously).
Same for the show itself, i believe they should, perhaps, go for an opening act of noise, speed and a 'we're back' shout..... for example.....and bear with me...... A based elsewhere F-18 low pass down the runway, at a highest speed posssible / allowed. Maybe even not mention it, only that the show will start in 2 mins, then do a 30 second count down and the 18 to reach the boundary at exactly zero. Pulling vape as it goes, then pull up into a display routine.
Put smiles on everyones faces from the outset.
I'm off to lay down now.

Well remember Lightnings doing that in the 60's when they opened Battle of Britain shows. No announcement, very low, very fast, go ballistic and then you heard it.HeyfordDave111 wrote: ↑Fri 25 Feb 2022, 11:12 amA based elsewhere F-18 low pass down the runway, at a highest speed posssible / allowed. What historical elements do we think could add to the US anniversary celebration?
B-17 and P-47 already on there.
I guess you have the Dutch B-25, plus the Flying Bulls collection. A few Mustangs. Is there anything else in Europe that could realistically attend?
How amazing would it be to drag a B-29 over the pond?

B-17 and P-47 are a bit odd TBH, I guess they’re just getting their hands on whatever they can and shoehorning them to fit the theme. The anniversary is of the formation of the USAF as an independent service in 1947, so pre-1947 USAAF aircraft don’t strictly fit that theme.
For aircraft that actually fit the theme, there’s Fred Akary’s Sabre in France. A couple of T-33s in Europe. Greek F-4Es. And F-51 Mustangs were still in use in 1947 and beyond. Not much else comes readily to mind.

A bit like the PA 474 being in the 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight' even thought it didn't take to the air until after VE Day and the war in the Far East had ended before it could be deployed there?
I'm sure that there won't be that level of 'rivet counting' and any WW2 US aircraft who wish to take part will be welcomed.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Well, the USAF use warbirds in the heritage flight, and I presume the P-51 will do that here seeing as the P-47 is on static. Did the Catalina edge over into USAF service?Mike wrote: ↑Mon 28 Feb 2022, 11:50 amB-17 and P-47 are a bit odd TBH, I guess they’re just getting their hands on whatever they can and shoehorning them to fit the theme. Its a shame we don't have the F-86A any more, but Akary's Sabre would be most welcome to stand in.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Both the P-47 and the B-17 entered USAF service and it's those versions that these represent. It's not like there are actual USAF veterans readily available.
The P-47 was in service until 1949 and continued as the F-47 with the ANG well into the 1950s. The B-17 was mainly used in the air sea rescue role by the USAF.

Sally B and P51 Mustangs appeared at the 70th Anniversary show in 2017 at RIAT too. They may have entered service with the USAAF but were also part of the USAF after formationMike wrote: ↑Mon 28 Feb 2022, 11:50 amB-17 and P-47 are a bit odd TBH, I guess they’re just getting their hands on whatever they can and shoehorning them to fit the theme. Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I don't care if it adds up or not the B17 will look great next to the B52, B1 and B2 - just need a B-29 and B-24 to finish it off.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Certainly did, and became the A-10A, no not that A-10A. B-17 served until 1959 with the USAF, so I cannot see how that representing an operated type is any more strange than having a Greek F-4E on show?Wrexham Mackem wrote: ↑Mon 28 Feb 2022, 12:36 pmWell, the USAF use warbirds in the heritage flight, and I presume the P-51 will do that here seeing as the P-47 is on static. At the 50th anniversary show at Nellis, they were more than happy to have the whole range of USAAF types lined up P-39, P-40, P-47, P-51s en masse, P-38, P-63, B-25, B-17, B-24, sadly the B-29 went sick but was meant to be there, C-46, A-26, SBD-5 as an A-24, T-6, C-54, HU-16 and more.
I'm sure a few C-47s may be available to assist with the beginnings of the 1947 creation.

Good news and let's hope the deal includes Iranian Phantoms at RIAT.

Come on, this is UKAR. You’re supposed to throw your toys out of the pram if it’s anything less than two F-14s flying a full aerobatic pairs routine.

Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
That sort of behaviour is for the discussion thread not the wishlist thread. If they are going to send anything it will be a Hercules.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
Apparently they’re sending 2 this week, to collect £400m in 2p piecescapercaillie wrote: ↑Wed 16 Mar 2022, 12:58 pmIf they are going to send anything it will be a Hercules.
Re: RIAT ‘22 wish list
I’d quite like to see an AAC Bell 212 before retirement sometime next year, along with, perhaps, one of the 84Sqn Griffins, again, before retirement. Though, until the latter is replaced by the Pumas, there may not be much chance.
FOST Dauphin, maybe? Or perhaps the gorgeous BATUS-coloured Gazelle (assuming it’s not repainted).

F22 or B2 on static would be nice
