Frecce were their usual brilliant selves today but the Black Cats were even better. At times they were off the scale with that performance and that's what it was a performance.
I hadn't realised we had stealth helicopters either. Just brilliant.
I liked the Black Eagles as well! One criticism though - the commentary music; arrrggghhh!!!

A lot of people today were covering up with long sleeves and trousers, hats etc.

The sun is very strong alongside the heat

Depends how you cope with sun, my arms are roasting today, and I’m glad I wore outdoors light trousers rather than shorts.

Wide-brim hat makes such a difference if you have one. Much more than a baseball cap.

Light, long and loose. Anything that isn't covered, slap on the factor 50. A tan is for another day.

I think the organisers did a decent job given the circumstances. More bowsers would have been nice, but they at least seemed easy to find. A lot of people seemed to be leaving earlier than usual, and I think front loading the flying schedule was, with hindsight an excellent move

Also, the wind is going to be breezier tomorrow. Don't be fooled that it's cooler than it is. It's the UV that causes the damage.

I bought these,

Was considering chucking my bike in the car in case I can’t get into departures day, but decided against it.

Will see if these work or not.

Just home, absolutely drained but loved being back.

Austrian QRA is quite possibly the best display I have ever seen.

Being ancient 70+ I can never understand why loud, heavy metal music is needed for a display item. To me it totally distracts from a display. I`d much rather hear the engine/s jet or prop.

Me too. I hate the stuff. I've switched to a once a day product that's more like an oil; apply it before you leave home and you're good for the day - worked a treat yesterday.

I didn’t mind the Korean music.

Talk about music, RAF Typhoon, American tunes, you alright team?

The commentator kept talking over the music anyway!

I think usually dutch have flown with Hardwell, Thunderbirds with American cheese (same with ACC). To be fair what would appropriate music for the Typhoon be? Iron Maiden?

One exception, The Breitling Jet Team performing to Nightwish’s Sleeping Sun.

In terms of displays, the C-27 Spartan was the best of the day for me, they were properly throwing it around, not just marginally but with full gusto. Shame the overall display was somewhat light in terms of large aircraft, the Spartan and Beluga both seemed notable standouts amongst the flying display

It's better than the dreadful commentary the reds have, which is a monotone stating of what we are watching, can't they show an ounce of energy and enthusiasm occasionally. Being so close in the schedule to the Frecce really badly exposed the Reds

Agreed... do miss Lingy.

As for music over displays - can understand for some of the more gentler stuff but fine with it (actually - i enjoyed it for the black eagles and also thunderbirds) for louder stuff- it fills in the gaps a little and you can't hear once the jet gets in close anyway.

It was embarrassing when the Riat photographers up the big ladder strongly “asked” the Spanish F18 team to move their tables, chairs, and items they were selling so they could get an uncluttered picture. The Spanish were less than happy and only moved when the senior officer told them to. While the Riat people offered to help they were impolite and could have come back later. Clearly they don’t speak Spanish or they would have got the drift of the unhappiness- please remember these people are your guests and we want them to come back - you and your photographic needs are secondary

I think that's my biggest takeaway from today - the mix was superb. There was something for everyone and enough for even the most casual of attendee to stay glued to the sky. Massive well done to DBH and I can't wait to do it all again tomorrow!

I have to say the Jordanians get a lot of unfair criticism and their display today was one of the best I’ve seen from them. That Austrian typhoon take off is on another level and the Hellenic f-16 is definitely up there now
