Slovak International Air Fest (SIAF)

Post by bobby 1211 »

The show will take place on the 27th and 28th of August. It will be the final chance to see a Slovakian Mig-29 as they are being retired at the end of the airshow. I think its also the only place to see the Solo Turk this year outside of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Not sure if the F-22 will be doing a demo or just flypasts.

I thought their Fulcrum fleet was going into service with Ukraine rather than retiring.

I went in 2019, really good show on an interesting cold war airfield with mountainous scenery, would highly recommend.

I think it's not 100% confirmed. They said back in July they would start the potential transfer of their MiG-29 fleet to Ukraine at the start of September but recently they refused to give a clear answer if thats still the case.

Agreed. However, the show has been relocated to a different venue since then: Malacky instead of Sliac, as the latter base is currently undergoing renovation.
Anyway, Malacky is also a pleasant location despite lacking the montanious backdrop.

Thanks Leadfoot,

Malacky also has slightly better runway orientation by the looks of it so not quite as bad for back lighting PM. I can't make it this year unfortunately but hopefully the show will give the MiG-29's a good sendoff, opportunities to see former Soviet types are rapidly diminishing now compared with just a few years ago :slight_frown:
