T & T GB 1/72 antonov An-26 Russian Project Done!

Post by ianf »

Hi all
My entry for this build is a well known aircraft by an unknown manifacture, I know very little about them, and it is obvious it is a short run kit but with some patience (sic) and a lot of luck this could turn out ok (fingers crossed)
The Pics
As you can see the moulding is crude and the etch brass is limited somehow I think I'm going to need patience with this one

These parts are plastic inspite of looking resin

All in all I think I've a bit of work on this and filler may be a major bit of the final kit but its an unusual subject so I'm looking forward to it.

Hi well after a lot of delay and only 11 days left to the end of the build I can post something at last! This kit is a curates egg some of the detail on the moulds is great but the fit of parts is very hit or miss. Although the pics don't show much progress its taken a long while to prep the parts with a lot of sanding and carving.
This pic shows the basic cockpit in place I decided as much will not be seen I would not go to town here. Also the green stuff filler is filled with nose weight pellets
Image

All the slots and holes have to be drilled out and filled to shape
Image

The wings and engines took a lot of trail and error to marry to each other then I filled the joints
Image

All I need to do now is rub everything down and add detail and the wings will look ok fingers crossed
Image

So no pressure just 11 days to go! I do think though that all the other prep work I have done on the other parts should mean my next update should come quicker.
I will keep you posted.

Hi
As I said in my last post I hoped progress would be a bit quicker and with 9 days left it better had be! I have made steady progress with the main parts fitted and filled and sanded  so hopefully now less sanding :yahoo:
MY main fear was that the 3 piece rear fuselage would not line up square and would be tricky to fit. Well the first part didn't happen but the second part was more fiddely than hard.

I've still a bit of sanding and cleaning up to do

I'm hopeing that by wednesday I can get a primer on, if so I may go for one of the more elaborate schemes if not then it will be a simple one colour scheme.

Wow! You're making some serious progress with this one- I think you need to do some kind of mind-meld with Deacon, if you're going to get this one finished by the deadline- I really hope you do it!

Well I cut this one really close! just 8 mins left of this GB  but she is finished! I really didn't have enough time on this as it was really an aweful lot of cleaning up of parts was required. For example the exhausts are clompletly solid and required drilling and filling to shape. That said it wasn't a bad kit considering its origin. If I had more time I would have replaced the props if possible and got alternative decals, probably the hungarian special scheme. Still I can have a rest now till the next GB begins

Image

The white colour you see at the base of the fin is the clear glass light I have replaced the kit one with kristel klear which is slowly drying, hence it's not clear yet!

Thanks for looking.
