Post by Tug 747 »

This is my first contribution to the Airfix group build I am a bit late looking at those who have already started.

I was toying with the idea of getting this as I actually missed it as I joined just after.

Looking forward to this mate.

So which one? Black and gold or silver and red?

If you are doing the black one, be aware of Airfix's see-through decals.

I did the black one. I was planning on doing TD248 using a ICM MkXVI with the decals left over.

Looks like i have enough bits here for two machines all that is missing is the bottom wing section and the fuselage some of the parts seem totally irrelevant to the Mk XVI.

Well this is where i am at the moment

Well the dry fit has revealed some nasty gaps that will need filling

Well i shall update in a few days when i have mastered my filling and sanding techniques.

Bulk delivery of filler for Mr Tug 747.

Good luck. Hope it goes better than the disasters I'm trying to deal with.

I have this in the stash but looking at this has placed a few more kits in front of it in the build pile!
Good luck,
Geoff.

Great progress mate.

Can I suggest that another coat of metal, thinned but not too watery, would get rid of some of the brush marks.

Alan I had already put the decals on but they broke apart and blistered for some reason so i have stripped of all the decals and and rubbed the paint work down and i will attempt to spray the thing in a few days. And then I will endeavour to paint the red lines on and reapply the decals.

Hi Doug,
What the hell happened to that , why have you used a brush when you have that cracking spray gun.
Looks like your rushing it. Bin it or start again.

Doug,

Spraying it and spraying the red lines will be your best option.

Did you get a chance to sand this down and spray it yet? Maybe order a set a new decals from Airfix. Spraying red lines in not the easiest of colours to do.

Well i was going to give up on this and bin it or leave it as a bad job but i cheated a little and jaguar did the spraying for me as i was not in the mood to continue with it.
So thanks to Paul i can now share it with you in all its glory. Any comments regarding the final spraying of the silver and the red lines may well makes his head swell or shrink
The only thing that i am not happy with is the decals. As you can see they are transparent.

Well that is my contribution even if i did have a little help and it is not all my own work

Not too shabby at all.
I made this kit into the black and gold one. Fortunately I had two sets of decals as they were so transparent that some of them disappeared completely.

I've still got the decals and an ICM MkXVI to have a go at.

I'll give you credit... I would have binned it a long time ago. The whole kit took a complete 180. Your builds are getting better and better each time. Even with a little help on the paint.
