Big Scale GB - Academy 1:32 F-16I Sufa

Post by TomTwin »

Afternoon ( or as it's so dark and gloomy here in North Wales it could easily be evening or even Night ) gents,

This will be my entry to the build, Academy's lovely F-16I Sufa, with the Eduard Big-Ed set thrown in as well.

Can't wait to start this build, practically salivating at the thought of it.

Kind Regards,

Tom

Not at all! :grin: The kit was £89.99 and the Big Ed set was £66.89 on Hannants, seen here;

One thing I won't be doing on this is using the AGM-130's included in the kit, as Israel doesn't use them! Probably replace them with the GBU-31V3's included in the kit, those I can tell you are very impressive for plastic injection and not resin ones!

Expensive hobby in a way, but when you work out what the cost is per hours of modelling, it works out quite cheap fun

It is a great kit to build. When I did mine, I used the wolf pack correction set, cockpit and wheeliant wheel set as well.

Look forward to seeing you progress on this one Tom.

Apologies for my lacklustre performance in this GB, but unfortunately work has taken over my life recently, but I should be able to post an update in the next few days

I have however installed the CFTs, Spine, and a few photo etch parts onto the fuselage, and have some weapons built up ready for painting. So I will post some piccies very soon!

Kind Regards,

Tom

Right guys, after an eternity, I have a small update for you all! Just a quickly taken photo before I went to work ( spent a bit too long building this thing today, almost missed the bus... )

Will post a few more shots tomorrow, but this is how she stands at the moment....

Image

If that's wetted your appetite, there is more coming tomorrow..... :heyhey:

Tom

Right oh, another update, with the wings, tail and nosecone all now assembled onto the kit.

The fit of the tailplanes is superb, however the fit of the wings is a little stark. Some filler will be needed to blend them into the fuselage, as there is a small gap, but nothing serious and I should be starting to paint this thing very soon.

Here's how things were at the start of play.

Image

A shot of the cockpit. Still some work to do, but it's getting there.

Image

Where we are as of now. Note the few seams that need to be tidied up.

Image

Close up of wings and spine etc.

Image

Just have a few antennae, the canopy and all it's bits and pieces, eduard exterior set and some tidying up to go before I can commence painting, which I'm looking forward to immensely!

Kind Regards,

Tom

Not at all unfortunately, SAM projects being the priority. Though this will get an update soon after the Cheltenham Festival next week, as I am away for the whole week so won't be able to update on it.

Cheers,

Tom

Right lads, another update, with this one close to painting. Almost there, just have to apply some more photo etch, sort the engine out and then mask up and get spraying.

Here are some quick shots of progress, with her looking rather smart so far.

here she is with a few bits and bobs, I still have to assemble another pylon and build the LANTIRN and Litening pods before I do anything else.
