Special Schemes GB - AERO Team 1/72 MiG-21 FISHBED *Finished

Post by FTS »

I've had this kit in the stash for a while now and always fancied having a crack at it. I'm building in the scheme of the Yellow, Camel sponsored Hungarian Sky Hussars aircraft. I didn't expect wonders from the kit, particularly from a firm that i've never heard of and this is the only kit of theirs that I have in stash, but i've been pleasantly surprised with it. Yes it's needed a bit of work but no more than an older generation Airfix kit would.

Looks like youre doing ok with that one so far!

I take it this one is different from when it was at RIAT in 93? If not, i dont remember it being yellow, more like a nice shade of brown.

This one is now complete. I couldn't find any photo references with the Camel sponsorship but found some of the aircraft in 1993 and later in a museum, so worked from them.

More pics will be added to the gallery.

Geoff, it was at RIAT 93 (without the Camel sponsorship), which I was at as a small child but can't remember seeing the aircraft in the flesh. It was yellow, albeit slightly darker than the yellow i've used but it was all I had.

I was 7  It was the last RIAT my family did untill I went back in 2007 having missed years of aviation porn! It wasn't the MiG-29 collision that had any impact on it but I think the following events did; Getting in the car about 18:00 and sitting in traffic, waking up in the car and it being dark but we were still on the airfield, finally arriving home in Leeds just as the sun was coming up!

Nice work, especially as yellow isn't the easiest colour to get a good finish from
