The final part of our 2004 aviation trip to beautiful New Zealand is new now at aviationanoraks.co.uk featuring some of the other aircraft, flying and preserved, that we came across both on North and South islands.
Hopefully, at some time in the future we will be able to return.

Pilatus Turbo Porters at Mount Cook airport.
We flew up to the glacier in MCK, with a snow landing once there and a full on Khe Sanh approach back at base! An experience I will never forget.

Squirrel on White Island.
Another incredible flight and visit.
Flew from Rotorua to visit this volcanic island. Spent an hour or so walking around with the pilot as tour guide, then flew a circuit of the island before returning to Rotorua.

With chances to see historic aircraft very rare this year, we were very grateful when RAF Cosford
gave us a heads up that Hawker Hurricane R4118 was to make a short visit on the 18th August.
We also had the bonus of a fly past by the NHS Spitfire, but it crept up on us so no photos!
We did post photos from the day on UKAR at the time, but have also now posted them on our own website.

This week it’s back to September 2007 for aviationanoraks.co.uk and a look at the Vintage Aircraft Club fly-in held at Turweston airfield.
We only popped in for a few hours but glad we did, as there were some unusual aircraft present including the Chrislea Super Ace that we had not seen fly before - or since.

In September we visited the RAF Museum at Cosford to have a look around the new Battle Of Britain Exhibition, which is now featured on our ‘Latest Update’ page at aviationanoraks.co.uk.
Well worth a visit when the museum reopens, as a number of previously unseen artefacts are on display alongside the aircraft.

More from the RAF Museum at Cosford this week.
It’s not often that we get a chance to see under the skin of a historic aircraft, but upon our September visit they had their Messerschmitt Me410 Hornisse on display partially disassembled in the Warplanes hangar as it was undergoing conservation work.
Too good an opportunity to miss, lots of photos were taken, and the results form our latest update this week.

The final part of our visit to the RAF Museum Cosford is now on our latest page at aviationanoraks.co.uk
In normal years we tend to visit Cosford twice a year as it is fairly local to us, but this was our only visit of 2020 and with everything going on in the world it made for a few hours of happy escapism.

We can tend to take our national and independent museums for granted, but this year has made us think about them a bit differently and we now intend to try and visit more of them once we can.
They certainly need us to put some money their way at the moment.

Some scans from 36 years ago this week at aviationanoraks.co.uk and photos from the September 1984 RAF At Home Day held at RAF Abingdon.
This was the first time at Abingdon, but not the last.

A bit of GA this week at aviationanoraks and photos from a few hours spent at Halfpenny Green back in September.
It was a warm sunny day so quite a bit going on, but the main thing was it was great to be back on an airfield photographing aeroplanes!

We’re back in the 80’s again at aviationanoraks for Christmas, with photos from the first International Air Tattoo I attended at RAF Fairford in July 1985.
The weather wasn’t the best, but as a 14 year old at his first big airshow I was in complete awe at some of the aircraft on display and the numbers lined up.
Not so many traders or sideshows back then, just rows and rows of aircraft.
Absolutely incredible considering the ticket price!

2021 at aviationanoraks.co.uk kicks off with photos from a visit early in October to the Muckleburgh Military Collection on the North Norfolk coast.
A mightily impressive collection of military vehicles, with other artefacts, models and even a Harrier GR3, we spent a lot more time here than we expected as there was so much to take in.
Well worth seeking out when times allow.

It’s back to 1985 again this week at aviationanoraks.co.uk and a small set of photos from the RAF At Home Day at Abingdon.
The weather wasn’t the best, but the line up of aircraft was impressive, and I think it was the only time I ever saw Snoopy in the air.

Aviationanoraks.co.uk stays in the 1980’s again this week, with photos from the 1987 International Air Tattoo at Fairford.
I was there on the day of the downpour and remember a lot of the grass becoming a mud bath very quickly, but hey it’s a British summer!

We are staying at the 1987 International Air Tattoo this week at aviationanoraks, with photos from the Monday departures day.
As an aviation mad teenager I remember enjoying this day as much as, if not more than the actual show day. Seeing so many of the static display aircraft, some of which I had not seen before or since getting airborne left a lasting impression which led to me making a point of attending the departures day even if I had not been able to get to the show itself.

It’s still 1987 at aviationanoraks.co.uk (in a much better century than the current one!) where now we take a look at the RAF Abingdon At Home Day.
Yet another show affected by bad weather but even that didn’t stop some superb displays, including Ray and Mark Hanna in the P-40 and Spitfire, and also Kermit Weeks Mosquito before it went to the USA.

This weeks update at aviationanoraks.co.uk is another ‘Airshow Archive’ with photos from the once only Wings Of Victory airshow held at Coventry’s Baginton airport in 1988.
The stories around this show are well known, but it was a truly spectacular warbird show with participation from TFC, OFMC and many more operators.
It was also the first airshow I attended without parents in tow. As a teenager it an epic trip with a close friend, involving a train journey to Coventry station and then a long pre-planned walk to the airport, with the same going home after a day in the sun!

The final part of our look at airshows from the 1980’s is now uploaded at aviationanoraks.co.uk with a set of scans from the 1989 International Air Tattoo.
After attending so many shows in the 80’s in very poor weather, this was the complete opposite and was ridiculously hot!

Malta Airshow 2004.
More archive photos this week at aviationanoraks.co.uk with the first part from a long weekend in Malta in September 2004.
This set covers the static aircraft display at the airport, which was also the setting for the flying display that year.

Continuing with our Malta 2004 weekend, aviationanoraks.co.uk this week has photos from our visit to the friendly and impressive Malta Air Museum.
At this point it was quite a small museum, but by the time we returned four years later it had expanded somewhat.
A great museum that is well worth a visit if you ever find yourself on the island.

The final instalment of our 2004 Malta trip is now on the latest page at aviationanoraks.co.uk
We were given a tour of the Medavia NCA maintenance facility next to the international airport and allowed to wander around the storage area, which included a number of BAC 1-11’s and a C-47 (which is now at the islands air museum).

Vickers Valiant XD818 Reassembly (part 2).
Back in early 2018 one of our weekly updates at aviationanoraks.co.uk partly covered the arrival & reassembly of Vickers Valiant XD818 at the RAF Museum at RAF Cosford in 2005. Now we have found the second set of photos, here is part 2 !
