Re: Vintage Airband Radios
Lots of recent additions to the Vintage Airband Radio Site www.airband-radio.co.uk
Also includes a page containing radios I've seen in adverts but have been unable to find any further information - www.airband-radio.co.uk/unknowns
Always looking for information or pictures to add to the site for others to enjoy
Thanks

Re: Vintage Airband Radios
Interesting site.
I had a Shorrock Mk 6 (I think) which was I believe based on a Bush radio but I can't be certain. It was about 50+ years ago!!
Much smaller than the Mk 5 - more modern for the time.

Re: Vintage Airband Radios
The Shorrock mark 6 was beautiful and what I would have wanted more than anything in the world. Unfortunately for a 12 year old schoolboy the £36 needed to buy one was a kings ransom. Two of my friends had one and one was still using his held together by tape forty years on.

Re: Vintage Airband Radios
I always thought the Mk 5 appeared to be easier to tune than the Mk 6 - the band window was larger on the Mk 5 so setting the frequency seemed to be quicker....

If anyone can provide a picture of the Mk 6 then I'd be happy to add it to the website - otherwise it remains a 'mythical' radio!

You could ask for anybody who has c1965 Air Pictorials. They were advertised in just about every edition.skyking_comms wrote: ↑Mon 27 Dec 2021, 1:13 pmIf anyone can provide a picture of the Mk 6 then I'd be happy to add it to the website - otherwise it remains a 'mythical' radio!

Re: Vintage Airband Radios
That's a good shout - as far as I know Air Pictorial magazines aren't available as free digital copies, so the adverts never appear in my internet searches.tankbuster wrote: ↑Tue 28 Dec 2021, 12:30 pmYou could ask for anybody who has c1965 Air Pictorials. I've been trying to find a collection of Air Pictorial magazines from 1950 to 1965 for my RAF Fairford History website (www.raf-fairford.co.uk), so now looks like I need to extend that collection to around 1970 to capture vintage airband adverts!
Unfortunately every time I see a collection for sale they are too far away and the seller doesn't want to post.
If anyone on this forum has a set that they want to sell and would be happy to post (if not local) please let me know
Thank you

Re: Vintage Airband Radios
A huge thank you to a member on here who provided me with a large collection of Air Pictorial and Aircraft Illustrated Magazines.
This had led to the discovery of a Shorrock Mark 6 advert which included a picture in the June 1966 edition of Air Pictorial www.airband-radio.co.uk/shorrock
The Shorrock Mark 6 is now in my top 3 radios to find for my collection. The other two are the Shorrock Model 102 (HF Radio) and a Park Air 16W/SS channel scan monitor (came out around 1972) - Please let me know if you have any of these radios for sale
Thanks
