48 hour comp: Blue

Post by Ian G »

We had some good entries when I chose this for our UKAR staff competiton a while back so I'd like to see your shots on the theme of 'blue'. Bonus points for thinking outside the box, it's not always about the colour!

Over to you!!

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew –
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Little color incident, at Paris Bastille Day 2018 flypast, partly due to a last-minute replacement by a spare aircraft.

Note also that, in French military slang, especially when designating adversaries in exercises, we use the "cherry blue" term to avoid harming some feelings.

Wow, so many great entries! Interesting to see how you've all interpreted the theme. I must give a few shoutouts to Shaun and his superb Rafale shot; Aaron's Flanker; Tuckat's Hawk; and Peter's GR4 from Bluebell - ahh happy memories of that climb, eh?! Dan's late entry of the absolutely gorgeous Blue Diamonds Hunter was however pipped to the post by Caper's "Blue Circle" F2 - what a great nickname and a lovely shot too. I believe ZA267 is still around at Syerston?

Cheers Ian, unexpected I must say, I'm so envious of all those Russian shots.

It was something I never expected to see, taken in June 1994 on a regular day out at Boscombe Down, prototype scheme F2 taxied out and started circuit bashing, I didn't even realise it was still flying at that time. I think it went to Marham as an airframe trainer initially after retirement and heard it was repainted like a GR4, maybe someone can confirm?

I'll put up a new topic in the morning if Basil Brush lets me (clue).
