48 Hours Photo Comp: Africa

Post by Bernard »

I would like to see your photos of African air forces planes. These can be active airplanes or warbirds.

Hi chaps, interesting topic...hoping for a few exotic entries. Like others, my choice is very limited.
Only went to Africa once (Zambia), but my long-range snaps at Lusaka airport are sadly fuzzier than Sesame Street.
So you will have to only imagine air force Y-12s, SA-60, Yak-40, various Bells and the last HS.748, never mind.

None of these are 'top quality', but more for interest - handful of shots from Lusaka, seen from the terminal/departing aircraft:

Thanks Alisdair, your shots are so much clearer than mine were from 2008.
Probably because yours were from the terminal, not from inside a moving airliner !!

The middle one is from a departing aircraft; in hindsight, I'm not sure how wise taking the others was (in terms of security staff!), but they seemed fine with me phot'ing the civil-aircraft, so was all fine!

Thx

My smallest entry is the smallest aircraft of what is probably the world's smallest air force (currently 2 active a/c):

All your posts were way beyond my expectations. Lots of rarities. My choice rested on the photo that I would have liked to take myself.
I first thought it would be the Nigerian Jaguar but Alisdair's Zambian K-8s finally convinced me.

I'm not quite sure two active aircraft, especially if one's that small, can be called an air "force" in the same way "MJN Air" could never be called an airline (one for the Cabin Pressure fans there).

I was only trusting w*k*pedia on this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benin_Air_Force):
