After seeing all the previous high quality photographs of operational aircraft, this photo is almost a recipe for depresion. However the team of volunteers caring for this machine appear to be very dedicated and I am confident that this aircraft has a future. The aircraft (F4) alongside it has been worked upon and is looking in good shape. Unfortunately visits are hard come by as it is inside the fence but weekend visits were allowed during the summer.

Re: Phantom F4 - Post your favourites
on 2 November I photographed this wonderful JASDF Phantom from the 302nd Hikotai at Hyakuri, specially painted to celebrate 40 years of "Samurai Phantom". The fuel tank shows the JASDF squadrons which flew the F-4 Phantom during the last 40 years in Japanese service. And...... still going strong as you can see!

Some Japanese Phantoms from 1994. All scans from slides, so not the quality you are used to.
Unique, experimental blue RF-4EJ of 501 Hikotai on the taxiway of Hijakuri. Note the reconnaissance pod under the fuselage.
And a normal RF-4EJ. These haven't changed in 18 years.
F-4EJ of 306 Hikotai taxiing at Komatsu, as seen from the great old spotters' place, which was on a slope.
And an unmodified F-4EJ (not a 'Kai' - no antenna behind the cockpit) carrying a dart for ground to air firing.
