There are some awesome photographs on this thread. FWIW I think the Rasberry Ripple scheme should have been continued under the QinetiQ banner and the Alpha's painted accordingley.

Random
One of the Hawks at least was still running round in ripple, and I think 2 of the andovers are still about. The bassett was last year, as was the sea king. I think a lot of the rest have gone now though.

Re: Raspberry Ripple Review!
What a thread! Congrats to Growlerwaxer (the mind boggles) on first post of the Mil in roundels - I beleive the first official Russian aircraft in UK Mil marklngs since the Yak 9!!
I may be wrong, but I beleive the term 'raspberry ripple' was first applied to the AAEE House style of red and white (before the combined RAE & AAEE scheme we know as RR was introduced) from the late 60s early 70s.
capercaillie wrote:Tucano isn't raspberry ripple, but just in the old RAF training scheme of red, white and grey and the Comet isn't ripple either although if anyone can post XV814

That's a fascinating snippet, has it really been that long - I wonder what the last Russian-built aircraft to carry a UK serial was?

I beleive these are the first Russian aircraft to ever carry official UK military serials. There may have been ones on undisclosed serials - there were persistent rumours of a Hind from Chad in the 80s .
There is also the possibility of Maintenance serials - I can't recall if the Boscombe Sukhoi that went to Spadeadam had a one or not. It's known that both Farnborough and Boscombe Down has a selection of Warpac airframes going back to the Cold war (As far as Korea and Suez) - some turned up on the Farnborough dump in the early 90s - but no known flyers.
The story of the previous only known Russian aircraft to carry UK military markings is in this link:

A really good thread.
Haven't seen these frames posted yet though:-
SA.330 at Farnborough
Scout prototype at Weston-super-Mare
Isn't there also a Gnat somewhere?

The Gnat is still looking gorgeous, but completely unsnappable at the Science Museum in Wroughton.
Have been asking for ages to see if they can pull it outside one day, without success...
