Re: Lord Howe Island (pic heavy on going diary)
Today had a visit from a very inspirational person, Eric Dabas piloting his Flight
Design CTLS (hope I got that correct?) overnighting on Lord Howe Island before
flying direct to New Zealand tomorrow, depart 7am local time.
Eric flies the CTLS and is supported by the Commanche with two other chaps.
Handflight website.

Then around 1.30pm local time a Cessna floatplane came direct from Keri Keri,
New Zealand, fuel and go to the east coast of Australia, was busy so only got a
couple of distant shots.

It is a small world, that Swiss CT was at my local GA field(Blackbushe) last summer visiting the disabled flying charity there. Gerat that he has made it that far, hell of a trip.
Re: Lord Howe Island (pic heavy on going diary)
Presently stuck on the ground out in the Tasman due to the weather,
not going tomorrow maybe Friday, hopefully Saturday?

Re: Lord Howe Island (pic heavy on going diary)
The Swiss round-the-worlders took off Saturday around 7am local time
estimated 8 hours from Lord Howe Island to New Zealand, end up taking
just short of 10 hours the little CTLS has a 19 hour endurance if required!
Had a great chat with Eric about how he controls the aeroplane, firstly she can
have all the hand controls removed and return to a rudder operated by feet in
less than two hours.
In this picture you can see a large grey lever this operates the rudder forward
for left back for right. The small black handled lever on the consul is brakes and
the throttle can’t be seen as it is behind his knee.
Eric told me cross winds can be tricky as he is swapping his hand from rudder
to throttle then taxing sometimes both right and left hands have to move from
throttle to rudder to brakes!

Great that he made NZ, still has a long way to go, best of luck to him. He will be stopping at my local field when he is almost home.

Would be great if you get a chance to get a pic of that and add it here?
I know they are along way off, the plan to be at Oshkosh later this year.
Re: Lord Howe Island (pic heavy on going diary)
Couple of Cessna’s today, the 172 is about to land on Norfolk Island as I type
the Caravan looks like she has come with holiday makers on board, just visiting.

Hasn’t been much of interest of late until this old gem showed up, a 1979
manufactured Fletcher could almost be called a classic these days? From what
I have found made in 1979 serial number 267.
After forty years working in Oz back to her place birth, back to New Zealand via
Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands, they reconfigure the hopper as a fuel tank to
increase their range!

Nice to see the Fu-24, looks like it has seen better days? One of those types from down under that has never made it to Europe, bit like the unlovely Airtruk.

Looks only a mother could love! LOL. Amazes me that the tail booms are not actually connected to each other.

Yeah she's one that could be described as beautifully-ugly and I agree, I'm not an
engineer but those tail tubes must have some incredible strength in them?
Re: Lord Howe Island (pic heavy on going diary)
Very nice fully restored Cessna 180 came through this morning, currently between
Lord Howe and Norfolk Island on her way to a new home in New Zealand.

Another Cessna this time a pressurised Cessna 210 with a turbine conversion,
pilot estimated 3.40 hours Lord Howe to New Zealand flying at 17,000ft.

Re: Lord Howe Island (on going diary)
Snapped a couple of local fellas flying in the lift today.
Love this mix a bull, a water tank, a satellite dish, a Cessna 182 and a hanglider.

Re: Lord Howe Island (on going diary)
Been a little quiet then two together and these two choppers which are here to
have a go at eradicating rats that have been resident on the island for 101 years!
Caused a bit of a stir on the island

Then Sunday 26/5/19 these two brand new XL 750s on there way to a parachute
operation in China, with these two this company will have five in their fleet.
Finally this 185 from Coffs Harbour, departing soon so will try and get there.

Re: Lord Howe Island (on going diary)
A bit late to the party, but I do like that turbine 210. A strange comment, I know, because I've been a Piper driver since 1982.
Re: Lord Howe Island (on going diary)
Must admit she looks a bit unusual with the large nose and big prop!
Just made it in time for this one on her way to the South Island of New Zealand
via Lord Howe and Norfolk Island’s. Tricky light conditions and even trickier for
the pilot, around 30 knots of cross wind, bit of a sequence of the landing.
Check the windsock, fair cross wind

Thank you Ewart latest couple, yesterday a nicely liveried 185 on her way to Norfolk
Island and on to a new home in New Zealand.
VH-PGE has been on the ground a little over an hour, overnighting before direct
flight to Hamilton then bound for a new home in Gisborne. Lord Howe Island to
Hamilton is around 1631klms that is a long flight over the briny watching that
single prop spin!
Found an old clip of VH PGE earning her keep, I like when they sit down hard
when the product goes in.

Re: Lord Howe Island (on going diary)
Nice surprise today the first RAAF Spartan (A34-001) to visit Lord Howe Island,
did three touch and goes then a flyby of the mountains, notable feature how
quiet these things are!
While I was waiting for the Spartan snapped a couple of the locally based 310,
and the regular RPT Qantas Dash 8 200 departing.
