Aviation- On This Day

Post by Seamus »

Afternoon all,

Given the obvious lack of new photo opportunities I've been posting OTD shots on my Instagram recently and thought it would be a good idea for a thread on here, whereby everyone can contribute and spread a little aviation joy in these difficult times. There's potential for an interesting and varied thread here, but I would suggest we limit the number of airshow images to one photo per poster per day- it could quite easily become completely inundated during RIAT week for example! For similar reasons, it would be cool if people could avoid posting images similar to previous posters, just for added variety.

I'll kick off with an image from 2017, where I caught a mass exodus of helicopters from Keevil Airfield during Joint Warrior 17-1, including this Puma, one of three flying that day.

Top idea for a thread, though it’ll be a little while until I can repost again. I normally spotted in Feb/March and then waited until May for airshows

Four from me taken at Heathrow on the 2nd April 2016. It has taken some time to do this as Flikr seems to be having a bit of a melt-down...

4th April, and again all I have to offer is Heathrow but this time from 2008. Spent a couple of hours at Myrtle Ave. and have selected this extinct beast...

The 8th April 2017 saw the much anticipated Gazelle 50th Commemorative Fly-in at Middle Wallop. Generally a good event and great weather but made tricky by the light. Here are two different takes on the pair of French Army Gazelles as they hover-taxied out to the static display area...

As I said, the contre-jour lighting made photography a challenge.

Beat me to it, R!

Another couple from the Gazelle 50th which, lighting issues not withstanding, was a great little event. Threshold.aero smashed it that day. I really enjoyed it, marred only by me ballsing the settings for the two French Gazelles at the end!

Four years ago today I was in Bucharest on business. Took a trip around the Romanian Air Force museum at the weekend, well worth a visit!

Looks like the 10th April was a busy day for quite a few people. Here's a few of mine of Exercise Joint Warrior 19-1 from Prestwick Airport last year, in some unbelievably clear weather as well!

Something a little different, was very fortunate last July on this day to look
through the Australian War Memorial's storage annex. Amoung many other
items they have quite a variety of German aerial ordnance.

On this day back in 2015, with weather very similar to what's currently being enjoyed in the UK.

Arriving into Bournemouth during the last light of the day was this US Navy C-40A Clipper. Annoyingly the aircraft arrived later than estimated, a crying shame with the evening weather being so sunny!

12th April 2008 saw the RAF Northolt Nightshoot XI. Sadly there were a few no-shows, but we were able to photograph the Dutch Royal Flight Fokker 70 against the setting sun...
