Cheers Shaun for handing the baton over. Smashing entries in the last one.

As a helicopter guy, show me your best shot of a helicopter gunship(s).

You really wouldn't want to have an argument with one of these.

A masterclass here sir!
As close to perfection as any study of aviation could be, I reckon.
A classy subject matter to start with. Masterfully captured in a dynamic and menacing pose. The subject and backdrop perfectly lit, and the colours compliment each other wonderfully well.
Furthermore, the composition is perfect! The subject subtly draws attention to the backdrop. I love the position of the horizon, the way the horizon curves away, and the positioning of the Mil, it has room to move, thus enhancing the feel of movement!
Ah, and the shutter speed, splendid!

I too dithered - Hind/Apache - but the Apache makes it totally clear there is a right end and a wrong end and which you are viewing from.... badass gunship.

The noise this thing made when it was spitting out flares... sounded like a million toads burping. Bizarre, wonderful machine.

What they lacked in firepower (rifle out of the window!) they more than made up for in awesomeness!

So many contenders, but I think this one just scrapes it:

It's not my place, of course, but I'd say this has a chance.

Not a serious entry but an interesting specimen. This Hind was imported with a load of soviet airframes that came into Hawarden in the early 90's. It was, for a while at least, kept by the owner in his garden. I'm not sure where it is now, maybe still there? Nothing seemed to happen with the Hawarden stash, which was still there the last time I checked.

Image

shot the day before an Airbus Broughton show in 94. The Hind was also roaded to Woodford show, and I have better shots from there, but they aren't scanned.

Great standard of entry here by the way, I don't think there's any point in me adding another head-on Apache :grinning:

Most people take a chair with them to an airshow, some even go to the extent of using ladders to get a better vantage point. This lad combined the two and is clearly having a jolly good time atop his Hind (available to purchase in all good hardware stores).
