Well... as we are back to Comp nr 89 - with Skyflash as the winner - should we continue from there?

I have full log till last one - 210 - but it's all gone now...

I have to say that my heart's not in it now. All that effort hunting out photos, editing them, posting them - all for nothing. Many of us have spent hours and hours on this and it's disappointing that it's all gone. I think it's a good place to stop or change it to something else.

After a great 18 months (sadly with the disappointment of the loss of all of this year) I agree with DerekF-great while it lasted but maybe time to move on.

I’d personally like for it to continue. I didn’t really care about “winning” (because you don’t get anything other than agonising over choosing the next winner haha)

I enjoyed thinking about a comp, combing the person collection (which more often than not made me come across images I forgot I had) and trying to find something interesting.

And that’s to say nothing of the immense enjoyment I get to see everyone else’s images that wouldn’t ordinarily have been posted.

Can anyone recall where we were before the forum went down? I confess I forget who’s gig it was.

Yesterday I agreed with Derek. The loss of all that recorded fun hit me right in the pit of the stomach. Today I agree with Tommy, completely, if for no other reason that surely our community is more resilient than that?

I had a long fallow period and then got a couple of honourable mentions, which was nice. I like to see other people's entries, especially where there's a story. OK, we fell off the bike. Lets get back on.

Exactly my thoughts :)

If we would like to continue from before the "event" - 210th topic was Aero Vodochody Jets started by Niallxg but no winner was chosen.

Or - as listed above - we finished on A10 topic with Skyflash as the winner.
Maybe we could pick it up from there.

I’m crap at these sorts of predictions, but I predict that if things are re-started, those of you who don’t feel like participating now may feel like it again soon.

Give it time. All it takes is “ohhh! [topic]! I’ve got a great one for that!”

If those of you who don’t want to post, still don’t want to, then that’s of course fine. But perhaps others still want to, and there’s no obligation to post if you don’t want to.

I think, Tom/Draken, (given that you’ve done great work tracking the results & winners and archiving the competitions) it would be quite nice to give you the “honour” of re-starting the competition with a topic of your choice?

Perhaps start a new “winners/topics list 2021-onwards”, because this list will be a bit hard as it’s missing 11 months of wins/topics and we can go from there?

I thought recently I'm done with this - decent topics get hard to find and not many entries to be seen.

I doubt I would join in often if it continues in present form.

I think it would be better to do a monthly comp .

just my 2p worth.

I’m happy to keep going on the 48 hour format, it’s always interesting to see the variety of photos that we all have buried away. I tend to agree with Tommy, once the competition starts again hopefully members will join in. There have been, I guess, an average of 20ish submissions for each subject, so that’s 60 images to drool over every two or three days.

Maybe change it to weekly to see how things get on. Sometimes 48hrs isn’t enough time - I’ve had particularly busy weekends of periods at work where I’ve missed a competition I’d quite like to have entered.

So maybe we can create new form - weekly comp with 5 photos per person?
For example - Weekly Photo Comp #1 - xxx
With brand new list and ranking.

As Tuckat mentioned - there always been several entries, quite often from non-regular users (usualy very interesting ones).
I could start new series (Thanks Tommy :) ) but if anyone would like to do it - go ahead!

It would also make it easier to pick new topics if we're not getting through three and a half competitions each week.

I'd prefer not to have the rankings, if I'm honest. I don't think it needs any extra competitive edge over the individual competitions.

Why? Because it shows the extent that no matter what you put good or not ...most people don't stand a chance.

Scrap it completely and start again.

How about
Topic of the week
No ranking, no points, no competition, just photo theme of the week, topic creator picks next user from submitted photos.

Yeah, exactly, it's not a level playing field, some of us have more expensive kit, have more time to spend processing photos, or travel to more exotic locations.

So yes, that's why some people win more than others....

Photos are judged on their quality and rarity, that's pretty much how all photo competitions are judged. You might think there is bias and maybe there is to a degree, but all of the winners that I've seen have been worthy IMO. There may have been some where I would have chosen a different winner from the OP, but I can't really think of any where I thought the winner shouldn't have won.
