48 Hour Photo Comp: Rotor Blur!

Post by PeterR »

Taking a different approach to the last few competition topics (based on aircraft types). For the next 48 hours I want to see your best rotor blur images taken of helicopters! It's a technique most aviation photographers are familiar with, the challenge of getting the cabin of the helicopter sharp whilst getting the motion of the rotor blades blurred.

Love the topic! Hard to pick one as I love helicopters in motion :)

East Lothian as opposed to South-East Asia, but wherever it's photographed it's a beast of a machine:

I'm not really one to go particularly slow with the shutter speed, but sometimes the opportunity presents itself...

I clocked this from my garden... I just left the garden - on foot, socially distanced - when I realised it was landing. The Kent Surrey Sussex boys deserve the shout out.

Rotor blur is not my specialty.
Here is my "least bad" shot (Belgian Air Force Westland Sea King at Ferté-Alais 2016):

Some great entries well done! :clap_tone1:

I was blown away by Nick's Osprey shot, and then he swapped it out! Also, mentions to Andy's Hind shot (apart from the cropped tail rotor :speak_no_evil:), Tommy's TH-500B and Mic's Sea King.

But my winner, for both technical ability (full disks, wow), picturesque background and subject awesomeness is Andy's Kiwi Seasprite. Over to you... :sunglasses:
