48 Hour Photo Comp: POPPIN' 'CHUTES

Post by PeterR »

For the next 48 hours, I'd like to see your best images featuring parachutes. I imagine it'll mainly be aircraft landing with their drag-chutes deployed, but parachute displays also welcome, and if anyone has a photograph of an aircraft with it's ballistic parachute recovery deployed I'll be very impressed!

As seems to have become customary now, I'll allow 3 images per person.

QF-4 Phantom Holloman AFB 2007. We asked could the chute be deployed in the air? The pilot said I don't know lets find out! and he did!

Andy beat me to posting Lindy first, but this one was special because the shot is taken on the runway whilst she came at me. It was her 20th Anniversary ( of Andre owning her) run in 2013 Plus I was part of the team that packed and loaded that chute!

3 chutes for me:

1 "classic" (RIAT 2015):
ImageDSC_0276_RAW (2) by Colonel CHIBANI, sur Flickr

1 more original (Ferté 2016):

And 1 "out of the box". The OP didn't specify that the chute had to be open (and "chute" in French means "fall"). So I take my chance (Ferté 2017):

Morning All, some really great shots of a tricky subject. I find drag chutes at their most photogenic when you're shooting almost head on, and a shot of a Typhoon vacating the end of the runway similar to Mark's is something I've been wanting for a while but opportunities are very limited. Special mention also to to Colonel Chibani for the lovely atmospheric shot of the Vulcan landing at Fairford with the crowd in the foreground. But the winner for me is Shaun's shot of the Victor at Bruntingthrope. Composition bang on, nice and sharp, the only thing missing is blue sky. Over to you for the next competition...
