48 Hour Photo Comp: Airshow Special Effects

Post by Wrexham Mackem »

This time, I'm inviting your shots of airshow special effects. That is everything from smoke trails, to flares, to pyros. On the ground or in the air. Let's have three submissions each, and bring the airshow spectacle to the thread!

I think it was bigger bang than was expected, as the helicopter moved forwards once it went up - hence the cropping of the radome. It was their last display of the season so they were going out with a bang!

Some incredible images, especially the night stuff with fireworks. Not really my thing, but to keep in the spirit of things.

Nice theme Nigel!

I shall start with a colourful smoke shot... (Although the Frecce Tricolori's finale is the best 'smoke moment' at any air display). This shot of the Patrulla Águila from AIR14 at Payerne.
Image

Next up, some fireworks accompanying an EA-6B Prowler, taken at Oshkosh.
Image

Finally, ground based pyrotechnics. The finale of the Vietnam set-piece which wasn't allow to be named as such, at Cosford 2017.

Great smokin' theme again. Difficult to pick just 3.

I was hoping that this topic would build a thread that conveys the spectacle of an airshow, and boy did you deliver folks. Dynamic, spectacular stuff. Cliche I know, but its a shame that I now have to single one out, because there are many great shots here at an outstanding standard. It was going to be Preoch's fireworks over Oshkosh; that is such an 'airshow' shot which I love, but Mic has presented something here I have never seen before - a vic of Romanian Yaks, flying through an inferno, after dark. You couldn't make it up. So over to you Mictheslik.

thanks all :grinning:

I wouldn't have liked to pick a winner, some of them were just wow (cliché again) but I thought Gordon's looping in the dark surrounded by smoke and fire Apache was sensational. For it to be sharp is even wrong. Great thread.

Yep I know. There are some ace images here. Pako could also have won with either of his.

Have to say when I say the first couple of entries I figured, this is going to be tricky. Especially seeing Draken's Flankers and Jalfrezi's lovely Aermacchi. Oh and Skyflash's Corsair with that touch of colour underneath. And his Frecce - all terrific.

Thanks TonyC, the whole display was just spectacular, I'm happy I captured one of the best bits of it.
