48hr Photo Comp: Fly Douglas Jets

Post by Hammy »

Genuinely surprised to have come out on top in the Raspberry Ripple thread. Seeing as it’s the 50th anniversary of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10’s maiden flight later this year, I’d like to see your best shots of Douglas and McDonnell Douglas jets. For clarity: DC-8, DC-9, C-9, DC-10, KC-10, MD-11 and MD-80/90 are all acceptable.

Here’s a Scandinavian Airlines Mad Dog to kick things off:

My three in sequence, DC-8,9,10.
I know I posted this recently in the "On this Day" thread, but she is such a beauty I thought it worth posting again

Great theme Martin, and some lovely archive material posted so far! Mine are all very modern by comparison...

Very apt for the theme, taken on the last day at KLM MD-11 operations in November 2014, with special markings applied to the aircraft to commemorate the airline's long history with Douglas & McDonnell Douglas aircraft types.

And finally, a shot from an epic four days spent at Birmingham Airport when this Bangladeshi Dinosaur came to town for the weekend!

2 from me, all from RIAT 2013, all of the same airframe from the RNAF. Such a beautiful sunny day and yes, I was trying to be clever with the F-16 being in shot too.

From a visit to Gatwick in 1984.

British Caledonian DC-10 (my favourite scheme they flew in, though not done justice being scanned from a 5x3.5 print!)

Bit more recent. KC-10 getting airborne at RIAT, of course, in 1997 I think it was.

Thanks to Andy for the kick up the arse to remind me I'm meant to be judging this - not that it matters as Tom's done my job for me. There's no topping Peter's shot of the Binman roaring out of Birmingham as far as I'm concerned.

Dan's shot of the VARIG MD' a very close second - a fantastic combination of livery and aircraft that I sorely miss.

Thanks Chaps! As I said in the original post, a memorable and historic few days spent shooting S2-ACR from a variety of locations around BHX.

New topic coming soon... :helicopter:
