ZA718 Bravo November.

Post by Binbrook 01 »

Not seen it on here yet. But the RAF museum has announced this afternoon that it has purchased it, and that it's due to be delivered by road from Odiham to Cosford on the 16th March.

Great news, but the museum have not announced that was ‘purchased’. AFAIK it has been earmarked for preservation by RAFM on retirement for many years now.

Great news that its (finally) on its way to the RAFM.

I wonder where they're going to put it?

From what I've heard there is going to be a Falklands display in the hangar that currently houses the Argosy.

Not sure what you can stick in the rumoured Falklands aircraft display in Hangar 1. As the Vulcan and Victor are firmly stuck in the Cold War building

As for BN, yes it has been on the cards for a longtime Mike, although the press release now says acquired.... I think basically that all the MoD airframes that the RAFM has were bought/transferred to it back in the early 90s. Which was to stop the disposals of things they had, like a real Canberra Bomber (St Athan had the oldest B.2, and Cosford had the B(I).8) alas only one survives and that is in NZ.

The NZ B(I)8 is the one that was at Cosford. It was transferred to the RNZAF Museum, who never put it on display.

After the MoD disposed of it, the RNZAF outbid the scrapman...

Sadly they are happy with an ex RAAF B.20 than either an ex RAF B.2 (now as rare as.....) or the B(I).8

Still at least it will go on display in NZ.

They do have a Pucara and a Harrier GR.3 which would fit into the Falklands theme.

And the temporary chapel from Port Stanley has gone missing from RAFM Hendon in recent weeks.

I suppose we will only have a few weeks to wait and see. What they have lined up for it.

Let us hope that the "Falklands Display" does not prevent the Chinook, and indeed the Pucara and Harrier being outside at the airshow.
Thinking of the RAF 100 event several aircraft were temporarily moved to Cosford. What relevant airframes are available for a Falklands display ?

The show organiser should be able to secure airworthy Scout and Wasp, Gazelle, Wessex and Sea King, all were involved in the conflict, although not in RAF service.

Somebody asked the same question on Facebook, its because it has been stripped of spares over the last few weeks. I am very suprised it is not going to Hendon to replace the EH101, seems the perfect long term place for it. I wonder if any new Falklands exhibition will forget that most of the legwork in the sky was actually done by th FAA??

Seeing that the exhibition is at the RAF Museum, I’m not sure what you’re expecting.

Perhaps the best way to acknowledge that fact would be to get an ex FAA Falklands veteran to come along and open it for them, ideally someone who's been around the odd ribbon cutting ceremony in the past.

Anyone know anybody that has some spare time on their hands these days??

I would just ask for a balanced view. The RAF provided the Harrier GR3, Chinook, and the Vulcans of course. The first two had more effect on the conflict than the last. Without the FAA there would have been no victory.

Lots of locations are doing Falklands related displays & it looks like Yeovilton are redoing their display at the moment https://www.fleetairarm.com/exhibition/ ... /4-36.aspx

Newark's event is detailed in here http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Falkland ... -War_Event and it is co-ordinated with a 'by-invitation' event at RAF Waddington on the Saturday evening.

Now on loan to NZ Warbirds. A team have repainted the fuselage, currently trying to find space to work on the wings.
