At least it'll no longer be airside. Bit of oneupmanship in the allotments.
Re: Doncaster airport in doubt
Indeed.
It would probably be a good situation for '558, unless it gets sold off for housing of course, or any other function that could see the removal of the runway and taxi ways, such as happened at Brunty.
They were question marks over the airports long term commercial viability even before Covid hit, so its not really much of a surprise. Again, it was one of the reasons many questioned the decision to retire '558 there.

bad news but it's impossible to feel 100% safe anywhere these days, brown field sites are easy pickings for developers and unfortunately airfields are classed as brown field sitesGeeRam wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul 2022, 7:01 pmIndeed.

I see that Peel Airports sold the airfield back to parent Peel Group back in Dec 2012.....so, no need for it to be sold for development, as its already been owned by a Property Development Group for the last 10 years...andygolfer wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul 2022, 7:20 pmbad news but it's impossible to feel 100% safe anywhere these days, brown field sites are easy pickings for developers and unfortunately airfields are classed as brown field sitesGeeRam wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul 2022, 7:01 pmIndeed.

No wonder the airport MD quit his job last month, followed out the door by several other senior exec's in the past few weeks as well.

In the overall scheme of things, it may be good news for Humberside.
Passenger numbers more than halved within a few years of Doncaster opening.
