Re: Eastbourne 22
Anyone know if the jets will base up at Biggin Hill ? i know in previous years they've used Biggin but thats when the airshow has been on.
Re: Eastbourne 22
What's Beachy Head like now? I last went up there in 2016 and everything was so distant i havent bothered since. Used to get some great pictures of the aircraft topsides going into display and returning to Shoreham, has i go any better?

Re: Eastbourne 22
I tried Beachy Head in 2018 for the Belgian Army Augusta 109, which was ok, about two thirds of the frame filled at 400mm and about 100 feet below me. Other than that there were some good formation and singleton passes from the Reds but now they only have seven aircraft instead of nine and I have not yet seen their current routine. I didn't bother going in 2019 as modern military is what I go for and that year there was really only the Chinook that might offer a decent shot.
The F-16 and Typhoon have previously been flying from Biggin, which normally is an arrival and departure from the east, although I have seen both come around Beachy Head before but only one time each. I expect some stuff will be Shoreham based as previously but I think the days of spectacular topsides is now gone, just gentle transit passes and from memory I don't think any of it was very close to the cliffs in 2018. I will probably give it a go one of the days, weather permitting, or perhaps see if ADSB gives any clues to what is happening. Obviously it's been three years since the last Airbourne so things may have changed but change these days normally means worse rather than better.

generally unless they are flying in that way it's mostly contained to over the (and out to) sea far below, have cycled up there a few times and ended up going back down to the datum line

Re: Eastbourne 22
Belgian F-16 will be operating from Gatwick according to one of the engineers, unless he was trolling if true then no flares I guess.
Re: Eastbourne 22
Yeah the days when we got a topside arrival from the F-16 over Beachy Head seem a long distant memory sad. I guess i shall wait and see any pictures before deciding.

Re: Eastbourne 22
From the F16 display pilot Steven De Vries
Eastbourne has been cancelled by the organisation for insurance reasons
"radial engines don't drip oil, they mark their territory"
Re: Eastbourne 22
Reported on Facebook that the Belgian F16 has cancelled due to “insurance reasons”
Re: Eastbourne 22
From the Belgian F-16 page
So it seems to be just the F-16, not the whole event, that has been cancelled by the organisersPSA: Belgian F-16 Solo Display Dream Viper at Eastbourne International Airshow has been cancelled by the organisation for insurance reasons.
More info when available.

Re: Eastbourne 22
Shouldn’t something like this have been organised and confirmed well in advance, especially for what is arguably the star item?
I think it’s something to do with Biggin Hill. The jets are usually based there for the show, but aren’t this year. In any case, must be a bitter blow for the organisers.

Re: Eastbourne 22
This is a shocker! will be intrigued to know how this could happen so close to the event
I guess its too late to hope for another fast jet replacement.

Update: Don't despair just yet. We are working hard for a solution behind the screens. Let's all cross fingers
Well we can all hope. As I said before they were due to be based at Gatwick for the show so thats why there might be an issue.

Staging out of Gatwick is a rather strange choice if true.

Re: Eastbourne 22
F-16 for sure the star item... best solo fast jet display at RIAT for my money. I think a lot of people will be dissuaded from going, sadly. Shame, seems crazy nothing can be sorted out.
Re: Eastbourne 22
I havent been to Eastbourne since the regs ruined Beachy Head, and the viewing and photographic opportunities it provided.

Re: Eastbourne 22
The organisers are avoiding the question about the F-16 which is being asked under every single post on their social media pages. 2 days to go and its still unclear if it will display or not. If it doesn't, a lot of people might decide to not attend.

Re: Eastbourne 22
I suspect most of those going will be very happy to see 7/9 of the Red Arrows, the BBMF and The Typhoon. The F-16 won’t make a difference to them attending or not.
Re: Eastbourne 22
Looks like no F16 - F16 Display Pilot on Facebook “ Sad news, we had a fix for our Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow initial participation cancellation, but it has proven to be too late. Time was not on our side. 1 working day was a bit too short.
So sorry, we were really looking forward to Display by the Eastbourne Coast Side.
Stay tuned!”

Re: Eastbourne 22
Well the two stars of the show have both been cancelled :/
Re: Eastbourne 22
It's an ill wind...
I'll be at Albert on Friday and Saturday, where the Belgian F-16 has just been announced as a late addition. So now we'll get two F-16s (including the Danish one) and the Rafale. Fingers crossed for no low cloud for Friday's sunset display. Can't wait!

Re: Eastbourne 22
Albert airshow sounds great... but what's wrong with the British airshow scene that a once fine airshow like Eastbourne can't get more than one proper fast jet? You look at the European scene and it's so much better. Insurance issues? What's that about.... well, Eastbourne's loss is Albert's gain I suppose.

Re: Eastbourne 22
Airshows are a such a let down these days that I prefer to camp at air bases. Clacton this year has no fast jets at all this year and I only visited last year to see the F15s flypast. If Lakenheath can do that for Clacton why Can't Marham give Clacton an F35 flypast. Sorry for the rant have just woke up and had to take a sleeping pill to get back to sleep. Will take a sleeping tablet at Clacton if I have to go with my son so he can take pics.
