Are the Fridays before a show weekend still a normal day with no different ticket needed?

If my memory serves, the IWM did dabble with charging extra for the Friday before a show, but in recent years, standard entry applies.

There are usually plenty of arrivals and practice displays, including Patrouille Suisse last year!

Thanks, that's good to know - hoping for some arrivals before the Summer show.

Not quite true for the Patrouille Suisse - they couldn't make the Friday of the Flying Finale weekend, instead doing their practice in the morning of the show day instead, flying tow displays at Duxford that day.

Of course, you are right about the Patrouille Suisse - I was there on the Friday and just knew that I saw them twice!!

Yeah, they did a practice on the Saturday morning. I was coming past Duxford on the bus (Had to go to Cambridge and back down to Duxford to get there) and the amount of people on the bus saying "Look! It's the Red Arrows" was quite funny.

All jets are the Red Arrows, in many people's eyes - I remember one lady telling her grandchildren that six strike eagles that flew past once were the reds too.

I imagine that the Catalina crew know where the bits are but they're not yet on the aeroplane. A bit like Eric Morecambe and the notes.
