Eastern France and Switzerland

Post by iainpeden »

This summer I am probably going to be taking my daughter and her fellow student to a glacier in Switzerland conveniently situated quite near Sion. The aim is to take her down, leave the car, I fly back, then fly back a fortnight or so later to drive them back.

Last night, SWIMBO says "Why not just leave them on the mountain and drive back?" Which got me thinking to doing abit of spotting.

Sion looks interesting - any advice on particular places to spot from, frequency of flying etc.

What about French bases around the Reims/Dijon route down to Switzeland - again, any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

The main Swiss bases are Alpnach, Emmen, Meiringen, Payerne and Sion.

Also Stans can be interesting because of its Pilatus factory with lots of exotic Mil.

Also here the Swiss AF website. Here you can find per base the flightplanning and see if something is going on.

For France here : http://www.scramble.nl/airfield-guide/france

Reims is closed. Saint Dizier is a very nice option, Dijon is ok. Not sure how French Mil police is re-acting nowadays but if you stay clear of the fence no worries probably.

Rgds, Carl.

Luxeuil is just over an hour from Basel/Mulhouse so that an option. Nancy-Ochey is also viable but very difficult to spot at. St Dizier is a cracking option, did there on the way down to Luxeuil airshow last year, https://flic.kr/s/aHskfpk3Qv heres what we got in about 2 hours.

Can I throw you a curve ball and recommend the National Car ( Bugatti's Galore ) and the National Train ( makes York look like a model railway ) museums in Mulhouse, for a break from aircraft for a day or two.
