Re: Where to go thats the Question !
You could always visit us - we've even got a nice small section from a IX(B) Sqaudron Lancaster - W4964 WS-J on display!
Hope the last bit doesn't get me labelled as a spotter!

No notam's regarding any special flypasts for that day posted. If you go to CBY you might get to see the typhoon display which is now being performed over base according to this http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafconingsby/news ... 1C5E9B1E4A

I just realised that the father of a friend of mine flew one sortie in this aircraft in 1943. It no longer appears in your Museum list, nor even on your site. As this post was five years ago, please could you tell of the Lanc middle section's fate? Thanks.

Re: Where to go thats the Question !
Sorry that I missed the post and thanks for the PM reminder.
The Lancaster fuselage section is still safely tucked-up inside Hangar 1 at the museum and I'm sorry that you cannot see it on the website. If you follow this link http://empedia.info/maps/28 and hen check out Lancaster Corner you will find it mentioned in there.
If you PM me an email address I will send you a NAM newsletter that also has details about this famous piece of Lancaster.
AT the moment we're working on an update for the NAM website and I'll try to get this particular item added back to the site.

Re: Where to go thats the Question !
Thanks very much for replying to this old thread. Looking forward to seeing it sometime. I have a photo of it out on the grass in 1978 on my one and only visit to the Museum.
Does it have "J" on the other side and how do we know it is W4964 if the serial is not on this section? Thanks.

Re: Where to go thats the Question !
Morning,
I will email through some fresh information as per the PM.
It does have the J on the reverse side and it wears original paint work; it is now displayed in such a way that people can see both sets of markings
Post-war the airframe went into the College of Aerial Warfare Museum at RAF Manby as a 'One Hundred Op' aircraft and was scrapped in the early 1950s. This section was rescued by a local company / fmaily, who initially used it as a workman's hut for their road repair company and then as a garden shed at their home. It came to NAM in 1974 and I helped off load it from a low-loader trailer!
Work by the museum's archivist in the 1990s on id plates on the exhibit helped to confirm the above history and identity.

Re: Where to go thats the Question !
The Lancaster fuselage section has made it back onto the NAM website this morning in a short piece to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the formation of IX(B) Squadron; details in here!
Re: Where to go thats the Question !
Thanks - nice piece. I have just realised that he was with 1661CU before going to 9 Squadron. What a coincidence! TNA documents seem to suggest that 1661 was sometime at Waddington, sometime at Winthorpe. Do you happen to know any dates for the two locations, please?
