To be honest, go out by yourself it is alot cheaper.

You can do the show with a few days either side for less than £800 including flights, hotel and a car.

Hi Darkstar, first of all I'm a bit jealous that you're off to Aviation Nation this year. I went last year for the first time, loved it and will be returning in 2018.

There are two parallel runways at Nellis and both are used during the show. One is distant and the other is very distant from the crowd line! I found that some shots of landings and takeoffs could be got of aircraft using the nearer runway but it was a bit hazy for the far runway. The good news is that the taxiway that the aircraft use to get back after landing is astonishingly close to the crowdline.

There are two good places to view the show from. I prefer near show centre just to the south of where the Thunderbirds will be parked. Other people prefer the far North of the crowdline near where you get off the buses as some acts in the air to air and air to ground demos drop flares to the north of the show.

I wrote a review for AeroResource.co.uk of last years show which you can read at http://www.aeroresource.co.uk/events/airshow-reports/nellis-aviation-nation-2016/

If you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

Have a good time!

I'm gonna hold-back with information for a few days in case by Wednesday you're going to Australia?
If you go ahead with the Hawaii trip make sure you go to Hickam AFB, near Honolulu, on Oahu..... 'Hickman' is synonymous with being a central venous catheter line into the chest....& is nothing like as pleasurable an experience!

17-3 from what I have heard is all U.S. aircraft and units. no International participants. For the past few years this has been the case for the 3rd Flags and with saying that.... I don't doubt the person in the know that told me the info regarding 17-3. On the plus side... B-1Bs are participating again as well as B-2s. But last time the B-2s participated they flew from home rather then Nellis.

Hi all,

I'm coming over from The Netherlands to visit this airshow.

I noticed the prohibited items on the following website:

http://www.nellis.af.mil/Air-Show/

Does this mean that I can't bring my Lowepro Vertex 200 AW camera bag into the showground? I'm hauling various lenses and camera's so its almost impossible to to do this without the camera bag.

Thanks for the help!

Last year I struggled around on the Saturday with no camera bag because of the restrictions but found that there were lots of people with massive bags in the queue that were let through. On the Sunday I took in a Lowepro 400 backpack and it was fine.

The car park is very near security, so the worst thing that can happen is that youll have to take the bag to your car and fill your pockets with batteries if they say no.

Yep, I had a similar experience at Barksdale back in May, went in 'light' but didn't really need to. I think if you look to be a competent photographer they seem to be reasonably pragmatic but I wouldn't rely on that 100%.

Does anyone know if the participants are added to close to the event date? The list published at the moment isn't bad, but not as good as last year, I'm wondering more stuff is announced just before show day?
