Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Keep an eye on the consolidated USAF listings. They have an A10 Demo (Heritage Flight?) scheduled for RIAT weekend at an 'Pending Airshow'
F35 also is at a 'pending airshow' that weekend though given the dates are 9-17 July and no airshow is lasting that long.

Farnborough is after RIAT though. 18th-22nd. Flying Legends maybe, if it is before RIAT next year?
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Will be very happy if A-10 and the F-35 turn up, would make my year if we get a B-1 high speed pass too for the 75th Birthday ect.
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
It would be nice if the USAF could do something with a C model. Given the rumour is they'll go in Q1, it may be too late but, after almost three decades of operations in the UK, it would be nice to mark the event in some way at RIAT.

I've looked at the UK,US and european airshow calendar and no airshow matches the 9-17 July date. If it is Flying legends and RIAT wouldn't it be posted as two separate pending airshows?jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Tue 14 Dec 2021, 8:38 pmFarnborough is after RIAT though. 18th-22nd. Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Wasn't it in 2016 when the F-35s came over and arrived a few days prior? Could be a similar tasking...
In any case... if we get an Air Tattoo, and if the A-10 and F-35 turn up... i'll be elated!

There's four F-35s over at Lakenheath right now. I'd be surprised if at least one didn't turn up.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I daresay, rather than the expense/effort of carting a few Luke AFB jets over, any future F-35A appearances, solo or with the heritage flight, will now use the RAF Lakenheath jets.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Came across an interview with Paul Atherton (dated after RIAT 2021 cancelled) stating there is the potential for an unmanned display in 2022
https://www.flightglobal.com/flight-int ... 88.articleAreas that he feels are worthy of increased attention include sustainability, space, unmanned systems and cyber. This includes the potential to for the first time enable an unmanned air vehicle to participate in the display flying, he indicates.

Er, Scan Eagle, anyone...?...for the first time enable an unmanned air vehicle to participate in the display flying...

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Email from RIAT today. Announcements hopefully starting February.
Happy New Year from the Air Tattoo!
It's been another strange and challenging year but thank you for your ongoing support of the Air Tattoo and our Charity, The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.
Plans are well under way for the 2022 Air Tattoo taking place from 15-17 July. We hope to start aircraft announcements in February and all the signs are for good participation from Air Arms around the world.
Ticket sales are well ahead of previous years, thanks to your rollovers and good sales for 2022. Many Saturday enclosures have already sold out and we anticipate an early sell out of Saturday admission tickets. Tickets can be bought HERE.
Finally, if you are getting bored of the same old Christmas and New Year TV then why not have a look at the Virtual Air Tattoo from 2020 and 2021. It'll get you in the mood for the real Air Tattoo in the summer!

Famed for appearing to put my foot in it, read my post with the voice of Stewie Griffin if it offended you first time
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I thought that too, I remember an utterly underwhelming display by some hand-launched air vehicle at Waddington. Whatever it was seemed like a paper airplane on the horizon. I can't remember the year, but something is pointing me towards the year that XH558 was there without the display authorisation paperwork so it was limited to fast taxi runs (which happily were just after a downpour so made for a lot of spray!).

Not much, but genuinely a big lift to start being able to look forward to RIAT again.

Recent Airspace Change proposal - clearly they are preparing for the airshow
In order to support NATO, the US Air Force is making significant infrastructure investments on airbases in the UK and other allied nations. There is an emerging requirement for military aircraft, including Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), to operate regularly from RAF Fairford. Although any RPAS will be operated by fully qualified pilots, it is anticipated that they will not have the required onboard Detect and Avoid (DAA) capability to permit flight in unsegregated airspace. In accordance with Civil Aviation Publication (CAP) 722 – Unmanned Aircraft System Operations in UK Airspace – Guidance and Policy, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations require either a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)-approved DAA capability or to remain within a block of airspace that is segregated from other airspace users.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has initiated an Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) to establish suitable segregated airspace to enable RPAS operations from RAF Fairford.
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
The lynx mk7 from historic helicopters would be a nice addition to the flying display.

I can't see how the show will be cancelled this year. Considering we are right at the peak of Omicron, yet we still have Football, Music and various other events taking place with full attendances. Plus as stated, air arms around the world are positive about attending despite the current situation.
Fast jet fanatic.
