MAKS 2015

Post by strangelookingalien »

It looks like I may well have a chance to attend this airshow next year.

I am planning on going on the final Saturday and Sunday.

Anything I should know from those who have already attended?

I have booked flights and accomodation!

Does anyone have any other tips about this airshow?

Is it usually quite busy?

I haven't actually been able to find how to obtain tickets yet. Can anyone tell me how this works?

In another thread someone recommended 4aviation.nl as a tour company, dunno if anyone else was looking at them? I was thinking about doing it that way.

Hi,

I've attended MAKS many many times over the years and one things for sure Saturday and Sunday will be absolutely rammed even if the weathers cack ! If you can sort out something ticket wise I'd definitely be looking at one of the trade days and maybe Saturday or Sunday viewing the display from outside the airfield. The display on trade days is a bit muted compared to public days but usually has something that won't be making an appearance at the weekend.

Ask away for info on anything else that your concerned about. I can honestly say that if Russian aviation is your "thing" then MAKS is a great experience.

This is what Ian Allan have up

26th – 31st August: RUSSIA: MAKS 2015 AIRSHOW & MUSEUMS: We enjoy 1 day on Zhukovsky at MAKS and a second full day on the River Moscow anchored by the ATC tower which is ‘airshow centre’; and Moscow aviation museums. We are also offering a 2-day optional extension to Ulyanovsk to visit the Aviastar Factory (Tu-204, An-124 and IL-76MD-90) and the national Civil Aviation Museum.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Has anyone here ever attended MAKS without being part of a tour?

I am going with my brother in law who is Russian and knows his way around Moscow; but has never been to MAKS before.

Does anyone know when tickets go on sale and how much they cost?

We will go two days - but I notice there are three public days; are there any differences here?

What I am looking for:

- ability to join tour in Moscow
- ability to extend stay to visit other museums etc
- inside for one or two days on trade days
- as it seems very crowded - outside for public days (assume Sat and Sun)
- transport every day
- single room

anyone else with other ideas welcome to add!

I have been visiting MAKS on my own for many years , it's really quite easy. Book your tickets online and have them sent / delivered to your Hotel or collect them from the Ticket outlet company (parter.ru). The expensive bit is if you want to be driven to the show and park on site as the "VIP" tickets that allow this are quite expensive. The other option is to get the train from Moscow to Platform 42 Km ( I think that's the name ) and use the shuttle bus to and from the show.

If your brother in law is Russian and knows his way around just hire a car a drive to Zhukovsky for the show. As long as you have the right tickets and passes you can park on the airfield. If not get as close to Zhukovsky as the authorities allow and get the train / bus. If I remember rightly Bykovo used to used as a car park with shuttle busses to and from the show. In the past I have used a Taxi company to take me to and from the Show on the 2 days I visited the trade shows but I shared the cost with 2 other people so it didn't work out to expansive. I did the same for the 100th Anniversary Show in 2012 only with 2 of us sharing.

The "real" public days are Saturday and Sunday but the Friday Trade day is open to the general public but not so busy as Sat / Sun. One year I visited on the Saturday and when we were sat on the what was "VIP only" Grandstand looking out at the flight line I was genuinely scared at the shear volume of people in one area. It was just like looking at a mass of ants. After the Russian Knights finished their display and the crowd dispersed it was like a massive sandstorm. Quite frightening really.

Ian Allan website seems bust at the moment. What was the cost can anyone recall? It looks better than what the Aeroprints tour is doing.

Booked my place with Ian Allen! Can't wait for this.

What do these "VIP tickets" get you, other than onsite parking for the coach?

200 days to go...

I noticed that the 4Aviation trip to the Victory Day parade includes spotting at Chkalovsky Airport. I wonder why the Ian Allen MAKS tour doesn't also in clude some time there, especially as it's so close to Monino.

That's because Chkalovsky is used as an operating base for the flypast and practices. It serves no or little function for MAKS.

TO ALL CONCERNED

I've started my planning for making my visit to MAKS this year , booked flights , hotel and now started to sort my Visa application.

Please be aware individual Visa applications now can only be made IN PERSON at either of the London or Edinburgh Visa Application Centres as the Visa is now a "biometric" format. I've made inquiries and I'm told that it's a "turn up and wait" service , no appointments can be made in advance unless you use the VIP Business lounge ££££££ Ching Ching :dizzy: :dizzy:

I don't know how this will pan out for Tour Groups like Ian Allan etc but for someone organising things for themselves it means a day out in the big smoke.

Just thought I'd mention it as some people will be unaware and may leave the visa application to the last minute.

This will be my 10th visit to MAKS under my own steam so if anyone has any questions I'm more than happy to help as I'm sure many more on this site will as anyone who had anything to do with the 100th Anniversary Airshow will testify. A great bunch of folks.

Yes one question please. How do you go about getting the 'invite' (from whoever) that goes with your visa application?
