Looking at the Just Giving page of the project it has only raised 16% of its target with around six months to go and that's after the big summer push at airshows.

What does anyone think can boost the fund-raising effort of this project?

I’d say thats on top of any funds generated at airshows

That is very nice to see. Once it dirties down a bit, even better.

This seems to me to be a legitimate question. NZ2308 appears to be up for sale on the open market. What do MPT intend to do if it sells elsewhere?

I hope they are successful, and will be giving them my support. They seem to have a credible and achievable plan.

Further to this - mods may want to make this a separate thread?

BREAKING NEWS....BREAKING NEWS....BREAKING NEWS

The Mosquito Pathfinder Trust today announces a commercial understanding with the Aircraft Restoration Company (ARC), owned by the highly respected warbird pilot John Romain.

...

ARC have been engaged by the Trust to provide the suite of Engineering and Design Services to NZ2308 (the aircraft selected for airworthy restoration).

...

The Mosquito Pathfinder Trust have also engaged with ARC to provide flight test and validation program services before bringing the aircraft back to the UK, and to continue to be responsible for flying standards and pilot services when the aircraft is operational.

...

The team at The Mosquito Pathfinder Trust are also looking into the prospect of basing NZ2308 at Duxford, the historic airfield in Cambridgeshire, thereby giving the public access to the aircraft when it is not displaying at airshows.

Completion of NZ2308 is anticipated to be within 24 months and with the support and generosity of the public, The Mosquito Pathfinder Trust is confident a Mosquito will return to the skies over Britain in 2020.

"The remains of NZ2308's primary structure were in too perilous a condition to re-use, the only way of guaranteeing structural integrity would be to remanufacture the entire wooden airframe from scratch. However, the original de Havilland factory fuselage moulds and wing jigs were long gone and would have to be re-made."

Replica then?

Very strange that these guys aren't all working together. I know Bill Ramsey mentioned earlier that they had a conversation, but diluting the money pool in this way could be disastrous for both groups!

Quite right on both counts. We did reach out to MPT but frustratingly the conversation came to nothing. Two projects running does seem to reduce the chances of either raising the necessary funds. We at TPM still hope that MPT will agree to talk about working together to achieve the same aim. Of course following our decision to partner with Guy Black and Retrotec Ltd to do the build here in the UK (which we strongly believe was the right thing to do once we had the means to do so) it is more difficult to come together. But if NZ2308 does sell on the open market (presumably to the US as it is priced in USD) then perhaps the opportunity and will to talk again might re-occur. I certainly hope so.

On a slightly different subject, it is interesting to see Guy Black's Storch for sale on the same link. Yours for $650,000.

USD is a worldwide currency (the worldwide currency?) - prices of all sorts of things are linked to it: this means nothing except a universally understood basis for negotiation.

Building the Dream

Post by BillRamsey »

Been a while since I updated TPM progress on here - sadly still have no idea to insert an image! Maybe someone can help me there? But finally after many years of hard work our partner Guy Black and his company Retrotec have put together the formers for the first Mosquito fuselage moulds built in this country for over 70 years onto their steel base. Quite an emotional moment. We are starting to deliver on the efforts of the TPM team and the generosity of our supporters. Please spread the word.

They seem rather coy about the level of backing provided. Hopefully it is sufficient to make a difference.

By that definition, 3 of the 4 Mosquitoes that have flown since the demise of RR299 are replicas then?

Along with all those Mk.1 Spitfires, and a fair few P-51's etc.,etc...

Taken to a suitable level of absurdity, one could argue that "original" Mosquitos manufactured by de Havilland Canada and Australia were also replicas. Notwithstanding the CAA's peculiar stance on aircraft identities, a Mosquito manufactured using modern reproductions of factory jigs, themselves manufactured from original factory drawings, is an original production Mosquito. If it quacks like a duck....

The ones made in NZ may have had new wooden structure, but they used much of the metalwork from the original aircraft. There’s a lot of metal in a Mosquito. This one will contain very little from the original aircraft that it purports to be.

That's true for TPM project, but not for NZ2308, which is what the post about quoting 'replica' was about....

I believe from memory, Glyn's own project had a complete or virtually complete set of metal work, which as you say, is quite a lot on a Mossie.

As per my post in the XH558 topic...
There's an update E-Mail out from TPM today.

And on BBC Breakfast about 8.40, so it'll be viewable on catch up for the next day or so. A good five minute feature.
