Read from the following what you like, but good to see they are making sure the future of the aircraft is safe -

Agreed, great that they are 'on top' of things but.....
Nimrod, Comet, Victor, Guppy, and so on. what of them, plus the QRA sheds?

My blood runs cold at the possible thought of losing them. i must admit if i had the money, i'd be buying an airfield for a museum to house all these FOC forever, as this history needs to be saved / looked after somewhere secure..... Maybe in a hangar in Doncaster Airport :lmao:

A Monument can be (among other things) - "A site comprising any vehicle, vessel, aircraft or other moveable structure (or contains the remains of one)"

"Damage to a monument is a criminal offence and any works taking place within one require scheduled monument consent from the Secretary of State. The Act also provides for taking monuments into the care of the Secretary of State – the concept of 'guardianship' where a monument remains in private ownership but the monument is cared for and (usually) opened to the public by the relevant national heritage body."

https://historicengland.org.uk/advice/h ... monuments/

"The protected site of a monument may also include any land adjoining it essential for its support and preservation"

Well it was worth a look maybe, but nothing within the bounds of Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome has ever been, or is ever likely to be, scheduled as a monument.
And as the smart ship grew,
In stature, grace and hue,
In shadowy silent distance grew the iceberg too....

Just noticed this online, thought I’d share it here. Regards to all.

It is with regret that Bruntingthorpe Aviation has made the decision to cancel the Cold War Jets Fast Taxi Day that was provisionally planned for May 2020. This decision follows the latest guidance issued by HM UK Government in response to the outbreak of Covid-19. We thank all of our volunteers, supporters and enthusiasts for their continued support during these unprecedented times.

We remain hopeful that the August 2020 Cold War Jets Fast Taxi Day will go ahead and we will continue to keep our website (www.bruntingthorpe.com/aviation/discove ... -taxi-days ) up to date in regards to this. If you have any queries please feel free to contact a member of our team. As part of our duty of care towards our own staff, many will be working from home so please be patient with any queries you may have.

Cox Automotive (the new owners) are a massive US car auction company - one their companies is Manheim Auctions who are already in place at Bruntingthorpe. Any quick look at Google Earth will show the amount of space taken up by aircraft and runway compared with the space utilization of the car operation there. Bearing this in mind, and the fact that nowhere in their portfolio of companies does Cox Automotive have any interest in aviation, I fear the long term future for the aircraft currently there is limited at best.

I agree. I’m not sure there was any intent to hold an Open Day in May.

New information posted to the Bruntingthorpe web site:

Looks like, if there is an open day in August, it could be the final one.

Terrible news for the LPG Team, Looks to be the end of Fast Taxi events at Brunty and an uncertain future for some significant airframes.

Mr David Walton, is currently investigating the construction of new buildings adjacent to the LPG ‘Q Shed’ to house some of the collection and safeguard their future on land excluded from the Cox Automotive lease.

Let's hope he is successful and everything can be moved there?

All very well, but without the use of the runway there will be no more fast taxying

You might be lucky, but I think anything bigger than the Victor will have had it.

Realistically I think the most that can be expected is static engine runs - better than nothing I suppose....

What is there at Bruntingthorpe that's bigger than the Victor?

Other than a VC10, a Super Guppy, Nimrod and Comet?

That’s ignoring the second VC10, six TriStars and two 747s.

Looking at the site layout, and given the security/access issues, if there was a facility built I expect it would be fairly adjacent to the LPG hangers, which I can’t see going anywhere.

Plenty of ground either side of the lpg, qra sheds for a large hangar and outside static. Plus you can gain direct entry from Bath lane through the old crash gate. Plenty of room.

The way other shows have cancelled I doubt the August fast taxi day will still go ahead.

From the British Gliding Association Twitter feed :-
The new owners of Bruntingthorpe airfield, Cox Automotive, have noted that as the site is increasingly used by vehicles, they do not deem it safe for a landing. Existing aircraft at the site that can fly will be asked to leave.
