Not heard about this before - their website is excellent - an ambitious project for sure!

TT the report states the aircraft disintegrated after the crew abandoned it, so not much to restore?

Liberty Belle is also being rebuilt: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campa ... =crowdrise
And there's a group working on an airworthy B-17C. I suspect that they started out with similar amounts of metal.

Agreed- not sure how much material they have to work with but the site is impressive!

The Duxford Mk1 Spitfires were 'rebuilt' from not much more than the number plate (or whatever it's called) weren't they? Still allowed to call them original though, is that right?

So if (when) this project is successful, will this be 'an original WW2 B-17'?

How do you know I didn't?

Unless its "rebuilt" from other aircraft it will be a replica

We can discuss that ad nauseam. Pile of parts known to originate from said aircraft goes into hangar, airframe looking remarkably like said aircraft rolls out many months/$/bits of added new material later. Would you refuse a flight in it because of it not being a fully original aircraft?
Remember that Liberty Belle was rebuilt in the 90s/early 00s, so there will have been plenty of new material in the airframe already.
