Old Buckenham Airshow 2022

Post by elterwater »

I can't seem to find a topic for this one so apologies if it already exists...

Old Buckenham Airshow returns on the weekend of July 30th / 31st 2022

https://www.oldbuckenhamairshow.com/

Flying lineup is currently:

Christophe Simon performing aerobatics in the CAP 10
2x T6
Super Decathlon
De Havilland Beaver
Little and Large Extra 300
P47 Thunderbolt
Hawker Hurricane Formation
Spitfires
RAF Typhoon
RAF Falcons
The Turbulent Team
Beechcraft Staggerwing
Hispano Buchon '109'
P-51 Mustang
Catalina
B-17 Flying Fortress, Sally B
Fieseler Storch vs Piper Cub
The Future of Flight - Electric aircraft display

This will be my first time to Old Buckenham and I'm looking forward to the mixed lineup. I'm praying that the weather gods are kind on the Saturday...

The show looks great. It seems there is no camping. Can anyone recommend a local campsite for a campervan? Many thanks.

Not going this year due to a couple of reasons, the almost same line up as last year and the quite large price increase.

Same for me. As it’s a cut-and-paste from last year’s line-up, and adding the fact that the traffic was horrendous down the only country lane in to the site last year, so I’m giving this year’s event a miss

The tip is to actually ignore the diversion signs for the show and get off the dual carriageway when sat nav tells you, found out from some mates who did that when we met them on the showground.

I only live 3 miles away but I'm going to boycott it. £20 per person last year. £32.50 this year. 😡

On both days the display will finish with a surprise act.... I wonder what?
It's nice to have a surprise in this day and age!

Old Buck is pretty near Mildenhall/ Lakenheath 🤞

Don't get your hopes up for anything from USAF. The 'surprise's' base is Duxford.

Isn't that the case for 75% of the participants? Basically 'Duxford on Tour'

Bit of an overcast start to the first day with some light rain drops. Looks like quite a decent turnout in terms of crowd support and no issues with driving in at gates open this morning.

I thought that was great!

I loved the closeness of it all, everything was in such short easy walk. It all felt very much in the Old Warden mould, intimate and relaxed.
It was good to see the runway so close to the fence line and there was a nice mix of acts. Compare and contrast to Duxford where I feel like I have to walk miles to get from the car park to the entrance, to the toilet block and then back to the fence line to find them taking off using the runway in the distance....

I allowed extra time this morning and turned up half an hour before the gates opened but we were still being allowed in and parked straight away. Good to see the cadets getting involved in the marshalling and they did a sterling job. Lots of vendor stalls to poke around in for the size of venue. I stayed to the end (I'm normally legging it during the usual spitfire finale elsewhere in order to beat the traffic) and it took me all of three minutes to drive out and be back on the road.

I'm easily pleased but for a daytrip alternative to Old Warden and Duxford I'm a happy bunny.

It's a bit of a hidden gem, Old Buck (if you can stand the commentary 😂)

Sorry to say but Ken needs to retire, commentary total cringe today. No wonder he does not do many shows any more! He's of a different age, and needs to retire gracefully (and stop saying everything's exceptional 😀)

On another note, anyone know why police closed the car park entrance for about an hour today?
